POSITION SUMMARY

 

 

The Senior Safety Manager assists the Division Safety Leader in enforcing and regulating all safety procedures to ensure that Southland Industries meets all safety requirements in the field and all facilities by managing and coordinating Safety activities across an area or region.

 

 

 

 

 

What you’ll do:

  • Manages/conducts safety audits and inspections and recommends correction of hazardous situations for compliance with regulatory, Company and owner requirements for an area within the division.
  • Develops reports and presentations for safety briefings with division and company management.
  • Provides strategic and proactive direction on initiatives that will improve company Environmental, Health and Safety performance through minimizing risks and liabilities
  • Implements all aspects of corporate safety manual and ensures that all field employees and subcontractors are complying.  Ensures consistency, quality and compliance at all locations
  • Oversees and directs programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies
  • Provides guidance for departmental processes and activities including compliance with safety regulations and the investigation of accidents.  Guides emergency response to employees as needed
  • Uses information to track trends and injury rates. Develops current and future loss control strategies and implements corrective actions to prevent similar incidents
  • Reviews and/or contributes to updating training materials and manages employee training as necessary
  • Provides leadership and recommendations regarding the design, implementation and administration of safety-relative initiatives, policies, procedures and processes. Leads Adhoc Safety projects
  • Provides performance coaching and feedback for direct reports as needed.  Participates in annual performance process. 
  • Leads hiring process for the responsible area or region

 

 

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health or Environmental Applied Sciences or related discipline required
  • 7+ years’ experience in related field, including employee training experience
  • Min. 3 experience leading and guiding safety employees across multiple sites/states.
  • Certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid required.
  • OSHA 10hr, OSHA 30hr, OSHA 40hr training required.
  • OSHA 500 and CHST certifications preferred.
  • Able to take their CSP within 12 months of hire.

 

What you bring to the table:

 

  • Excellent working knowledge of health and safety management systems; OSHA CFR 1926, CFR 1910 and EM385 standards or the state construction safety regulations. Thorough knowledge of safety operating processes and procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer-service and organizational skills.
  • Strong project management skills, with ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent computer skills-experience with Microsoft Office suite and ability to access OSHA information via the internet.
  • Travels within area of region, more than 50% of time.
  • Ability to lead/train employees – previous people management experience required
