POSITION SUMMARY

 

 

Schedule, coordinate, supervise, provide leadership, and ensure the safety and productivity of a small work crew.  May act as management liaison and/or designated client contact.

 

 

What you’ll do:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Safety:

  1. Facilitate a safe work culture. 
  2. Ensure crewmembers adhere to the standards for safe working conditions and are fit for work each day.
  3. Conduct weekly “toolbox” talks.
  4. Provide answers to technical safety questions or seek answers from a competent authority.
  5. Participate in safety/incident investigations and reviews.
  6. Complete incident and other safety reports within appropriate timeframe.
  7. Ensure work area is consistently clean, safe, and organized.

Leadership & Supervision:

  1. Ensure new crew members are oriented to the job.
  2. Assess competency and capability of each crew member.  Establish benchmarks to ensure that each meets required levels of quality and productivity.
  3. Assign individual and crew tasks.
  4. Coordinate on-the-job training for apprentices.  Facilitate mentoring of apprentices by journeymen.
  5. Set and maintain work standards.  Outline behavioral expectations to ensure crew morale and productivity remain positive.
  6. Promote, support, and facilitate teamwork.
  7. Perform related craftwork along with crew.

Planning & Scheduling:

  1. Understand project plans and schedules.  Ensure the crew’s daily and weekly activities meet production goals.
  2. Identify and/or verify that all tools and materials required by the crew are available and complete.
  3. Identify needs and deficiencies in the plan/schedule and communicate these to the appropriate persons.
  4. Translate general work requirements into a prioritized plan for individual tasks and assignments.
  5. Review and adjust specific project activities and task schedules to meet established production schedules.
  6. Advise superintendent of equipment and material shortages.
  7. Work with the crew to overcome work challenges.
  8. Resolve or report any scheduling conflicts with other crews and contractors to the appropriate persons.

Quality Control:

  1. Ensure that completed work meets standards.  Recommend work processes that will improve productivity and product quality.
  2. Ensure the crew works to job specifications and follows the plans/blueprints.
  3. Inspect completed work and initiate timely resolutions to any problems.

Administration:

  1. Prepare reports as required.
  2. Maintain foreman’s log or diary.
  3. Ensure Task Hazard Analysis (THA) is performed and recorded daily at the start of the shift and before any tasks are performed.
  4. Assist superintendent with determining project production and work progress.
  5. Assist superintendent with completing quality reports.
  6. Maintain accurate, daily timekeeping records.  Document late starts, early outs, and absences.
  7. Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions and discipline.
  8. Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.

 

What you’ll need to be successful:

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

 

 

What you bring to the table:

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years’ experience as a qualified tradesperson
  • Familiarity with other construction trades and crafts
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety regulations as well as company safety policies and procedures
  • OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and resolve conflicts
  • Ability to manage differences and diversity at the workplace
  • Strong planning and scheduling skills
  • Ability to handle administrative duties of position, including completion of required documents
  • Effective use of computers and other technology
  • An active Texas Journeyman Plumber license may be required for individuals performing and supervising work in this field.
  • Employment is contingent upon active membership in the appropriate local trade union.
