POSITION SUMMARY
The Electrical Design Engineer II is responsible for the design and oversight of process systems for new construction and retrofit projects. This position requires thorough knowledge of the design of electrical equipment, electrical power and grounding systems, telephone and communication systems, life safety systems including fire alarms, and instrumentation and controls systems, and full system design for a wide range of facility types and projects varying in size and complexity. Design experience with a focus on power distribution and feeders, grounding, telecommunication and data, fire alarm/life safety systems, and instrumentation and controls systems is preferred.
What you’ll do:
- Participate in conceptual design efforts on all project sizes
- Prepare estimates for design options
- Perform calculations for a project, such as load calculations, panel schedules, short circuit and arc-flash, equipment and product selection, and sizing, conduit and conductor sizing, and design layouts, etc. using various software platforms
- You'll be responsible for design deliverables including, but not limited to the following:
- Electrical floor plans
- Equipment schedules
- One-Line/Single-line Diagrams
- Specifications
- Installation details
- Work with BIM modelers, Constructability leads and other project staff in the development of engineering drawings.
- Develop design and specification of equipment for compliance with LEED, Title 24, and COMCheck for lighting and various client requirements.
- Provide engineering support through performing site inspections and surveys during project construction phase.
- Work closely with or indirectly manage BIM Modelers and Constructability Leads on project deliverables.
- Review applicable codes and criteria while examining field conditions as required supporting the design of the project.
What you’ll need to be successful:
- Knowledge of electrical design to include types of equipment utilized in the industry as well as general understanding of systems designs, (power, grounding, lightning protection, fire alarm/life safety systems, telecommunication/data systems, security systems and instrumentation and control systems).
- General understanding of other building trade disciples such as mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, process and structural and how they relate to electrical system design and construction.
- General understanding of NFPA 70: National Electrical Code and Building Codes.
- Attend and participate in industry related conferences, training seminars, etc.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management, including project management and field trades.
- Ability to read one line diagrams, P&ID’s, equipment plans, and plan drawings for all disciplines.
- Competent with general business writing, including proposals and system design reports.
What you bring to the table:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s of Architectural Engineering degree or Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, with a preferred PE license.
- A minimum of 6 years of design experience is required. Any additional construction industry specific experience is a plus.
- Desired experience with mission critical, industrial, higher education, and healthcare projects.
- Desired experience with integrated project delivery (IPD), target value design (TVD), and design-build (DB).
- Systems and software expertise in:
- AutoCAD, Revit or similar design software applications
- SKM, Easypower or other electrical modeling programs.
- McCormick, Accubid, or other estimating software.
- AGI, ELUMTools, Visual, or other lighting modeling software.
- EDR, Ampcalc, or other specialized electrical calculation software.
- Design and procurement of all electrical “wired” systems.
- Proficient knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office software programs
