POSITION SUMMARY

Southland Industries has an exciting new opportunity for an entry-level VDC/BIM Support Specialist!

In this role, you will gain a breadth of knowledge in the Construction industry that includes mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems as you support our engineers, designers, and construction members throughout all phases of their work.

As a key member of our team, you will help us facilitate the various technical aspects of the BIM process. Southland is one of the first in our industry to implement a centralized VDC/BIM structure to support our design-build divisions across the country. Join us on our journey as a leader in the use of Virtual Design and Construction and Building Information Modeling technologies!

What you’ll do:

• Create 3D virtual models with 3D components. If you’ve worked with Inventor or Solidworks, you’ll understand this.
• Create construction documentation or “shop” drawings
• Complete a wide array of activities from downloading/uploading of project files to project setup, model management, and customization of the BIM applications
• You’ll be able to plan and create a workflow process that improves the way we do things
• Customize and alter BIM applications in order to solve immediate project problems
• Perform Model updates for engineering and constructability, as well as general model maintenance.
• Support submission related activities (Checksets, titleblock updates, etc.)
• Manage file sharing with other disciplines for design and coordination processes. (Arch, GC, EE, EC, FP).
• Interface with IT staff to ensure the BIM Team has the necessary hardware and BIM Software properly installed and accessible for project use.
• Provide general (Tier 1 and 2) application troubleshooting assistance when needed

What you’ll need to be successful:

• A desire to learn and expand your knowledge base and are drawn to the construction industry – it’s our world and what we do!
• You are curious, creative and have the interest and ability to solve problems.
• A technical aptitude—understanding and being comfortable with how any other technologies work.
• Dedication to the team, collaboration with others, and the drive to succeed.
• Basic level knowledge of BIM Processes and technologies, especially Revit MEP, AutoCAD, and Navisworks Manage a plus
• Associates degree in a related construction, engineering, or technical discipline or equivalent.
• It’s a HUGE plus if you have programming skills like C#, Python
