Shenandoah University’s Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning (TTL) is seeking an Online Education Facilitator to envision, develop, and build meaningful online programs and curriculum. The Online Education Facilitator role in the TTL team will lead the online education training program and participate in faculty development programming around online teaching and learning. This is a part-time, in-person position located on our main campus in Winchester, VA. 

 In this role, the Online Education Facilitator will:

  • Facilitate the Online Teaching Certification course, a self-paced training experience offered year-round for faculty teaching online
  • Collaborate with other TTL team members to continually update the OTC course to reflect current federal policies, accreditation requirements, and research-based best practices
  • Maintain the records of faculty certification status and keep up with reminding faculty when they need to recertify
  • Participate in the Online Education Steering Committee to approve or seek revisions on online teaching certificate renewals and waivers, as well as approving or seeking revisions for proposals for online course delivery
  • Consult with faculty on their waiver and renewal forms
  • Develop and deliver development opportunities for faculty to grow in online teaching

Required Skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a team-based, faculty-facing academic setting and enjoys making a positive impact via engaging learning experiences.

  • Knowledge about effective strategies for online education, based on at least 2 years of prior online instructional design experience in higher education
  • Proficiency emerging technologies used for teaching including but not limited to Canvas, Zoom, Panopto, etc.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to appropriately prioritize multiple tasks
  • Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with people of varying levels of computer literacy
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of inclusive design principles and best practices for online accessibility
  • Demonstrated understanding of inclusion, diversity, and equity (IDE) best practices in higher education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree (or higher) in education, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, instructional technology, or a related field
  • Experience with Mac hardware, OS, and software
  • Experience with AI in teaching and learning contexts
