Shenandoah University's Office of Accounting seeks applicants for a Staff Accountant position. This is a benefited position in downtown Winchester, VA, with usual hours of 9 am-5 pm Monday through Friday.
The Staff Accountant position is part of the Accounting team and is responsible for applying accounting principles to institutional, state, and federal expenditures, including Title IV financial aid and scholarship programs.
Responsibilities:
- Monitors grants, scholarships, work-study and loan expenditures, encumbrances, receivables, etc., based on various reports and disbursement schedules.
- Compiles and analyzes federal, state, and institutional financial aid and scholarship information to draw down funding, as applicable, and post journal entries.
- Monitors and reconciles specific accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems while ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Respond to on-campus requests for information and act as a trusted advisor on accounting matters.
- Maintains necessary working papers and supporting documentation related to journal entries, account reconciliations, and reporting.
- Assists with various special projects as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience
Required Qualifications:
- This entry-level position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration with 15 credit hours in accounting from a four-year College or University. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a college or university environment.
