Shenandoah University Athletics is seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Wrestling Coach. This position is available either full-time or part-time, depending on the candidate’s availability and qualifications. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide coaching and technical expertise that enables student-athletes to compete at their highest potential and to assist the Head Coach with recruiting efforts. The position requires the ability to physically wrestle live with our athletes.

Required Skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coaching and Training:
    o Utilize sound teaching techniques to conduct match preparation and practice sessions.
    o Coordinate and organize individual workouts.
    o Provide live wrestling sessions for student-athletes.
  • Recruiting:
    o Assist the Head Coach in developing and executing a recruiting strategy to attract top student-athletes.
    o Build and maintain relationships with recruits to foster a strong talent pipeline.
  • Athlete Development:
    o Mentor and monitor student-athletes’ academic and athletic development.
    o Maintain a safe and healthy training environment.
  • Compliance:
    o Adhere to and promote the policies and objectives established by the Athletics Director, Head Coach, and NCAA.
    o Ensure compliance with all university, conference, and NCAA regulations.
  • Fundraising and Special Events:
    o Assist with fundraising initiatives and special events to support the wrestling program.

Required Experience

Full-Time Position:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1+ years of coaching experience in higher education, along with collegiate-level wrestling experience.
  • Physical ability to wrestle live and train student-athletes in skills specific to wrestling.
  • Strong passion for the sport (obsessed wrestlers preferred).
  • Ability to effectively recruit and mentor student-athletes.

Part-Time Position:

  • Coaching experience is required, but a Bachelor’s degree is not mandatory.
  • Responsibilities and qualifications are the same as for the full-time role, except for the degree requirement.
