Shenandoah Conservatory: Founded in 1875, Shenandoah Conservatory has an extraordinary legacy of shaping the arts in Virginia and beyond. Shenandoah University's Conservatory is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Music, Piano Performance. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia . 

Shenandoah Conservatory seeks a dynamic piano colleague to join its Keyboard Division. The chosen candidate will further strengthen
Shenandoah Conservatory's profile and reputation as Virginia’s premiere, inclusive and innovative place of study where musicians from diverse backgrounds develop into dynamic and inspiring arts practitioners.

Responsibilities will include:

  1. Provide mentorship to both undergraduate and graduate piano students, teaching both applied and accompanying lessons, and
    offering chamber coaching
  2. Successfully recruit highly talented students, and strategically employ media and 21st century tools to effectively build listeners/followers
  3. Maintain a performance career while being intensely engaged in Conservatory and University life, including contributing to school-
    wide conversations and committees, and participating in division meetings and auditions.

Other possible teaching assignments are dependent on department or Conservatory needs and candidate qualifications. Contributions to
program recruitment as well as Conservatory-wide collaboration are expected.


Required Skills

Required and minimum qualifications include the following:

  • An excellent pianist with extensive performing experience
  • An excellent teacher with at least some experience of teaching within a conservatory or university setting
  • Ability and interest to effectively attract and recruit students
  • Possesses an interest in chamber music, with willingness to teach solo piano, chamber music, collaborative piano (in all its forms) and piano accompanying
  • Demonstrated orientation towards collaborative work
  • An ability to contribute to the Conservatory’s commitment to inclusion, diversity and equity
  • Possession of a DMA or equivalent professional experience; and Eligibility to work in the United States.
