54 reasons, in partnership with Ohana for Youth, is excited to announce the launch of a new holistic alternative learning program that aims to reconnect Mount Isa young people involved in the youth justice system with education, training or employment pathways. We support these young people with a wraparound crew of specialist teachers, teacher aides, youth support and family support staff.  We’re looking for people just like you: innovative, creative and compassionate.

A place to make a difference: 

In these full-time, permanent roles, you’ll play a key role in the establishment of the Mount Isa Alternative Learning program, providing holistic case management to young people aged 10-16.

 

You will make a difference by:

  • Case planning and 1-1 mentoring with young people who have been in contact with the justice system, forming case plans based on their individual goals, and their education, employment, housing and cultural needs
  • Facilitating activities designed to increase young people’s social and emotional wellbeing, life skills and education attainment
  • Developing and maintaining trusting relationships with young people and their families, and helping connect them to community and culture
  • Identifying where additional assistance and external services are required, providing appropriate information, support and referrals

These roles require: 

  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge, understanding and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth and families, families at risk, and young people involved in the youth justice system
  • Degree or Diploma in a related field, or significant relevant experience
  • Other skills and experience as outlined in the position description linked below
