Great opportunity exists as a Mental Health Peer Specialist in our Adult Crisis Intervention Program! Join our professional team to provide specialized care to consumers in a 24-hour crisis stabilization setting.
The Mental Health Peer Specialist provides peer counseling and support, drawing on common experiences as a peer, to validate clients’ experiences, and to provide guidance and encouragement to clients to take responsibility and actively participate in their own recovery.
The Crisis Intervention Services: include the Adult and Youth Mobile Crisis Intervention program and are part of Aspire's Community Behavioral Health Center. Crisis services are home and community-based services for children, adolescents, adults, and families in need of immediate psychiatric intervention.
Under the direction of Director of Crisis and Rehabilitation Services, the Mental Health Peer Specialist works to provide information, support, assistance, and advocacy for recipients, and/or caregivers/family members of consumers of mental health emergency services. Will also provide feedback and perspective to the mental health system relative to the impact and effectiveness of the services provided, and to assist with other work related to client care, as required.
Required Skills
- Peer Specialist Certification required within 6 months of date of hire.
- Bachelor’s Degree in psychology or mental health related field preferred
- Requires valid driver’s license, a safe driving record and access to personal vehicle for consumer transportation
Required Experience
- Current or previous experience as a consumer of mental health services or as a family member/caregiver of a former or current mental health client.
- One-year experience in an acute mental health setting (preferred).
- Experience working with Emergency Services preferred.
- Must demonstrate the following characteristics: flexible, team player, ability to grow and learn in the position, ability to provide support and quality care to well-being of individuals served.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision
