Laundry Worker - Class B

PER SOCCo Policy DND-HR-PRO-00001: Internal employees must be in current position for (1) year or greater to be eligible to apply.

THIS POSITION WILL BE REPRESENTED AS PART OF A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT UNIT. 

Employees hired into the Laundry Worker Class-B position will have a starting rate of $17.741 but will not receive the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) associated until they reach their third (3rd) year anniversary dates, at which time they will have attained the top rate in the classification and be entitled to COLA.

Position Overview

Works under direct supervision, manual work as directed in laundry.  Should be in good physical condition because of working conditions.  The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:

  • Sorts clothing and safety equipment into proper groups, inspects for repairs, selects proper cleaning solution, and exercises care in handling items in the laundering process
  • Prepares for return for reissue of clothing and material
  • Picks up and delivers laundry daily to different facilities
  • Bags, seals, and washes respirators
  • Labeling of issues clothing
  • Helps train new personnel
  • Works various shifts, as needed
  • Performs other duties incidental to the work of the department, as required by supervision
  • Maintains knowledge of and demonstrates ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner 
  • Has responsibility for the safety of those being supervised and ensures they comply with established safety policies and procedures and practice safe work habits
  • Actively participates in Safety Work Groups

Required Contingencies:

·         Pre-Employment Physical (office or field work)

·         Drug Screen

·         The ability to obtain/maintain "L" or "Q" Clearance one year from hire date

·         Background Check

·         Any site required training

Required Experience

Minimum Requirements

Must have High School diploma or equivalent (GED).

Must have a valid state Driver's License and be able to operate standard and automatic transmission vehicles.

*Craft experience and certifications are strongly preferred*

Required Skills

  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs while making occasional heavy lifts in loading and unloading laundry equipment
  • Must possess a DOE "L" Clearance or the ability to obtain an "L" clearance
  • Must be able to wear Company provided respiratory and other personal protective equipment, when required 
  • Must meet all contingencies for the position, such as training (including 1-3 months on-the-job training), physical, etc. requirements
  • Ability to work various shifts
  • Must be able to spend most working time on feet (standing and walking) with, but not limited to, some bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, reaching, stopping, raising both arms above shoulder, full use of both hands and capable of rapid work
  • Seeing - color vision; normal vision; and normal hearing
  • Must be able to work in an environment that may be hot, cold, humid, noisy, wet, or have sudden temperature changes; work in confined spaces; and with conditions that may include, but not limited to, exposure to burns (hot water), acids, alkali, solvents, moving objects, and radioactive material

  • Ability to operate a box truck and operate a lift gate
