USW Materials - Class B

PER SOCCo Policy DND-HR-PRO-00001: Internal employees must be in current position for (1) year or greater to be eligible to apply.

THIS POSITION WILL BE REPRESENTED AS PART OF A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT UNIT. 

Employees hired into the Laborer position will have a starting rate of $20.277 but will not receive the Cost-of-Living Allowance (COLA) associated until they reach their third (3rd) year anniversary dates, at which time they will have attained the top rate in the classification and be entitled to COLA. 

Position Overview

In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Performs under direction of supervision and/or alone. Requires knowledge of stores stock procedures for receiving, warehousing, shipping, surplus and salvage of all types of materials, including tools. Must use judgment in operation of equipment. Must follow specification and exercise judgment in checking for quantity and obvious condition of materials. Performs other duties incidental to work of the department as may be assigned by supervision.

Responsible for proper housekeeping; following safety and operating procedures; ethical conduct. Required to read comprehensibly and to write legibly. Required to adequately communicate with co-workers and supervision. Required to do simple arithmetic.

 

CONDITIONS OF WORK – AREAS WORKED IN:

 

Indoors and outdoors as needed in receiving/shipping, storage and distribution.

Required Contingencies:

·         Pre-Employment Physical (office or field work)

Required Experience

Minimum Requirements

One (1) year's experience in receiving, shipping or stores work.

Must have valid state driver's license and be able to qualify through MMES licensing procedures to operate light and heavy mobile equipment including but not limited to track mobiles, forklifts, tractor trailer (semi), and pendant cranes.

May require a Commercial drivers' license with all necessary endorsements.

Must be able to operate standard and automatic transmission vehicles.

Basic/intermediate computer knowledge and usage required
