SUMMARY

Servtech, A Roeslein Company, is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Manager I to lead our team in our manufacturing facilities for the energy, mining, industrial power markets, and Integrated bio-energy solutions.  This leader must have the desire to perform quality work safely, be detail-oriented, and have superior customer focus. This individual must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must be someone who represents the organization with the ability to lead by example, adhere to company standards, and resolve issues with urgency and professionalism.
  • Must comply with Roeslein & Associates’ core values for the safe and efficient operation of the business and maintain sound relationships with employees.
  • This position will be responsible for interviewing, selecting, and training all new employees to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to perform their duties to the standard of the organization. This position will also be responsible for developing the team and providing feedback for annual performance evaluations.
  • Responsible for the escalation of employee issues and company violations to ensure the employee understands the policies and procedures of the organization.  This position will create and deliver all employee disciplines with the support of Human Resources.
  • Performs all work in compliance with company standards, does not deviate from policies and procedures, and adheres to regulatory requirements.
  • This position will be the point of contact for the team and will respond timely to troubleshooting issues and avoid prolonged delays. Must be able to troubleshoot issues with complete resolution.
  • Identify all safety situations and report issues timely.
  • Promote a positive working environment to achieve the organization’s goals.
  • Must meet deadlines while safely producing a quality product.
  • Must set and adjust employees’ rates of pay and hours of work in collaboration with the production manager.
  • Operate and help oversee others using safety equipment and using safe work habits including, but not limited to working at heights, overhead cranes, etc.
  • Must have the ability to plan and direct the work of employees.
  • Must attend all manager meetings, training, and safety meetings as required.
  • Coordinates, implements, and interprets accident prevention programs, health safety programs, safety manuals, and safety policies, and assures compliance with company policies and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide site personnel training for safe work practices, including our manufacturing shop and within a specific Classified Area. Practices will allow safe work to occur without exposing personnel to flammable or toxic gases.
  • Ensure the proper level of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for all work activities, hard hats, safety glasses, steel toe boots, FR clothing for all Classified Area sites, and electrical safety PPE for the appropriate hazard level and type.
  • Procure and maintain calibration of all personal hazardous gas monitors. Ensure that the personal gas monitors have sensing elements that are specific to the hazardous gas potentially present on a particular site. Instruct/train all personnel in the gas monitor’s proper use and what to do and how to respond to any monitor alarm announcement. 
  • Expertise, knowledge, and experience with H2S sites, including proper site H2S sensing/alarms, site signs and instructions for H2S events, site personnel H2S safety and hazard training, provision, and calibration maintenance of all H2S personal gas monitors.
  • Train personnel in safe operation and maintenance of H2S detection and breathing air safety equipment.
  • Reports all reportable injuries to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) as needed and maintains and submits 300 OSHA logs.
  • Responds to accidents and incidents, conducts investigations, identifies the cause of accidents through Root Cause Analysis, suspends activities, if necessary, determines how such incidents should be prevented in the future, and closes out accidents/incidents reporting.
  • Conducts comprehensive audits of work plans, activities, practices, equipment, and tools as part of a constant monitoring process to control, eliminate, and prevent hazards and injury.
  • Performs system checks to ensure proper operation and calibration of equipment - documents and reports deficiencies and recommended corrective actions to supervisors.
  • Ensure the correct equipment, sensor, and alarm systems provide continuous monitoring in areas with possible hazardous atmospheres.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards and core HSE processes (Behavior-based Safety, JSA's, PTW, Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Lock-out / Tag-out, Dropped Object Prevention, etc.).
  • Ensures the completion of JSAs (Job Safety Analysis) for each manufacturing and service department, assists managers, if necessary, with writing a complete and accurate job safety analysis every shift, and informs workers of changes in hazards.
  • Must possess broad technical expertise, business and industry knowledge, and process and people leadership capabilities.
  • Monitor all ISN, PEC, Avetta, TPS, NCMS accounts weekly to ensure company compliance and current grade, and perform all actions required to keep the company rating as high as possible.
  • Enters monthly work hours and incidents into Site Tracker for every client.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and train on EHS fundamentals.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and communication skills; both oral and written are required.

  • Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills including First Aid/CPR, Six Sigma, and ISO 14001 Lead Auditor.
  • Computer skills and in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs are required.

  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.

SKILL / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • At least five (5) yrs. years of experience in the EHS-related field.
  • Experience with engineering, manufacturing, and/or oil and gas environments is strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems promptly.
  • Must be able to handle several tasks with confidence.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.
  • Strong computer skills and in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs are required.
  • Considerable knowledge of the NFPA, API, Federal EPA, OSHA, and State, and local regulations and standards in the Oil and Gas industry, general industry, and construction. 
  • Knowledge, expertise, and experience in Classified Areas including Class I Div II, and Class I Div I specific requirements and standards for area designation, isolation of unclassified electrical equipment from the classified area, confirmation of the electrical equipment suitability for a specific site classified area, knowledge of the EXP Sensors, Alarms, and controls to ensure the proper maintenance of a particular Classified Area.  Assist in planning and implementing safety policies and procedures with local, state, and federal EPA/ OSHA rules and regulations and international regulations.
  • Experience required in gathering and entering all required safety program details and safety data in ISNetworld, PEC, Avetta, NCMS, TPS Alert safety programs regularly.
  • Assists management with documenting all safety violations or unsafe conditions/activities; ensures corrective measures are immediately implemented; follows through to ensure corrections have been made.
  • Perform EHS Risk Assessments and implement control measures
  • Evaluate company risk; maintain records of insurance policies and claims for workers comp, auto, and property claims.
  • Drive continuous improvement through safety analysis, audits, and investigations; Lean 5S and other continuous Improvement ideas
  • Lead the Emergency Response Teams and Safety Committees
  • Act as subject matter expert for the organization and implement EHS BMPs across all locations.
  • Standardize written procedures, audits and inspections, and training programs across all departments of the company.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a strong knowledge of MS office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); ISN site software experience is required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions, define and solve problems, respond to rapidly changing circumstances, and problem-solving skills.
  • Assist in building a structured health and safety ownership and accountability program within the company by standardizing and communicating clearly defined safety regulations.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating environmental compliance for hazardous waste, stormwater, and air permits.
  • Review of contracts and proposals with EHS Director
  • Assist in completing the job assessments for physical demands development.
  • Perform duties associated with Industrial Hygiene functions such as noise assessments and air monitoring.
  • Update the compliance tasks list and ensure compliance with critical preventative maintenance calendar updates.
  • Assist in coordinating the daily activities of safety in support of the operations team.
  • Provide solutions to complex environmental, safety, health, and security issues serving as a safety leader.
  • Provide appropriate safety and health, incident prevention, and investigation training for managers and supervisors.
  • Assist management in the inspection of workplaces and project sites to assure safe and healthy conditions for workers.
  • Assist management and supervisors in investigating incidents and developing measures to prevent recurrences.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in an office and in an uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions—such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. Must be able to travel to job sites both domestically and internationally; living accommodations in some foreign assignments may not meet expected U.S. standards. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear.  Ability to lift and carry 10 lbs. regularly is required.
