POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mechanical Engineer III will assist upper level Mechanical Engineers and Project Managers with the design, engineering, procurement, and product life cycle management of large-scale custom manufactured industrial equipment.  Develop skills necessary to perform as Lead Mechanical Engineer on projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform pipe sizing and specification calculations with no input from Engineering Manager or Project Managers, based upon flowrate, pressure, and application.
  • Size and select pumping equipment with no input from Engineering Manager or Project Managers, based on safety, reliability, and lowest cost of ownership.
  • Select engineered equipment to be utilized as part of the engineered product design.
  • Perform detailed specification review of incoming bid documents from clients.
  • Perform basic structural calculations required to ensure safe, correct, and economical designs.
  • Create and organize spreadsheets and or bid documents with pricing, part numbers, and equipment data.
  • Create project proposals that accurately depict Servtech’s offering to our client.
  • Develop 3D CAD sketch layouts and P&IDs of mechanical systems within facilities with no input from Engineering Manager or Project Managers.
  • Utilize AutoCAD for system designs and assist with the review and development of drawing packages.
  • Coordinate with the manufacturing shop on all fabricated, pre-assembled, and manufactured system designs.
  • Contact vendors for price and availability of engineering equipment.
  • Compile and review relevant equipment data for submittal to the client.
  • Proficient at recognizing how piping layouts should take place due to maintenance, reliability, and serviceability needs.
  • Review mechanical manufacturing drawings from the drafting department for accuracy and intended function based on the project design.
  • Review drawing details for accuracy, standardization, and completeness for manufacturing purposes.
  • Communicate with clients for project specifications and technical questions.
  • Ability to take the lead mechanical engineering role for multiple projects at one time.
  •  Coordinate material take-offs for purchase of all materials required for fabrication and installation of Servtech/Roeslein provided prefabricated and unitized systems.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner, and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office and an uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions—such as:  dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. Must be able to travel to jobsites both domestically and internationally; living accommodations in some foreign assignments may not meet expected U.S. standards. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.   While performing the duties of this position, the employee will, regularly, be required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear, and work in a consistent state of alertness and in a safe manner.  Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis is required.

 

SKILL / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or technical engineering, math, or science is required.
  • Four (4) to Seven (7) years of experience in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • EIT registration is highly preferred.
  • Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs are required.
  • Proactive communicator that manages customer and vendor relationships.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills.
  •  AutoCAD, 3D, 2D and drafting experience beyond a basic level is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience is strongly preferred.
  • Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience in construction and/or manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Experience developing designs for fabrication of piping systems is preferred.
  • Experience with selection and specification of pumps, support equipment and/or HVAC equipment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of typical piping and piping component materials and appropriate applications is preferred.
  • Ability to manage time and efforts towards completing designs on time and within budgets is required.
