POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position will be responsible for creating manufacturing drawings utilizing AutoCAD Electrical. Will be designing and drafting to both UL508A and UL NNNY standards with engineering supervision. The ability to handle multiple tasks and jobs at one time is a must. The designer will assist other designers in a collaboration. Servtech, A Roeslein Company, is seeking an Electrical Designer III to join our team in the energy, mining, industrial power markets, and Integrated bio-energy solutions.  This individual must have the desire to perform quality work safely, be detail-oriented, and have superior customer focus. This individual must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for creating manufacturing drawings that accurately dimension and notify spatial relationships as well as contain complete bills of materials.
  • Create drawings from partially complete engineering department sketches, equipment lists, kickoff meetings, as well as past project knowledge/drawings.
  • Generate Bills of Materials accurately and without manual entry.
  • Complete drawings and other documents in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Operate the CAD software with minimal training and instruction from Senior level designers. May require specialized discipline training and instruction.
  • Create conduit, cable tray, and wire schedules, and use them to create layout drawings with minimal input from the design engineer.
  • Perform assembly and construction visits to verify adherence to design and record changes.
  • Utilize the CAD commands in an efficient and productive manner.
  • Understand the specifications set forth within the CAD software.
  • Stay organized and document redlines, revisions, and drawing changes.
  • Work with the production floor to develop accurate depictions of equipment and material.
  • Recognize special relationships that are required within control panels.
  • Create 2D CAD layouts of electrical enclosures with little input from management
  • Recognize how electrical enclosure layouts should take place due to manufacturability, maintenance, reliability, and serviceability needs.
  • Create point-to-point wiring diagrams of large industrial systems with minimal supervision from design engineers; point-to-point wiring diagrams are utilized to manufacture industrial facilities.
  • Follow a deliverables schedule to fuel the shop floor with manufacturing drawings on time to meet deadlines.
  • Perform basic quality checks on drawings developed by other Designers / CAD Drafters.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere.  Exposure to harsh conditions such as dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures or short periods is possible.  All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear.  Ability to lift and carry 10 lbs. regularly is required. 

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • An Associate’s degree in Computer-Aided Drafting, Applied Science, or related technical education is required.
  •  2-3 years of experience in conduit schedules and layout work, cable tray schedules and layout work, schematics, power one-lines, and field verification and auditing experience
  • Experience with engineering, manufacturing, and/or oil and gas environments is strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems promptly.
  • Must be able to handle several tasks with confidence.
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written are required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.
  • Strong computer skills and in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs are required.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical and the associated file structures, electricity and the various electrical symbols used is required
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD 3-D modeling is preferred, but not required. Must be willing and able to learn this subject matter
  • Ability to interpret engineers’ and designer’s notes and sketches for incorporation into design documents is necessary
  • Create power one line, point-to-point wiring diagrams, panel layouts, panel schedules, cable layouts, and conduit layouts
  •  Basic electrical sizing calculations
  • Computer skills and in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs are required, especially Word and Excel
  • Knowledge UL 508A is preferred, but not required. Must be willing and able to learn this subject matter
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written are required.
  • Develop detailed, neat, well-organized drawings meeting established standards
  • Requires effective teamwork skills, time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts
