POSITION SUMMARY:

The Construction & Operations Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist will provide administrative and on-site safety coordination in renewables construction settings while assisting the EHS Manager with developing EHS programs and procedures.  To ensure total coverage of all aspects of construction for projects executed in the renewables division of Roeslein & Associates.  Develop safety standard methods and procedures to enhance the construction projects' consistency, quality, safety, and efficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide services per project scope and maintain a compliant, productive, and efficient construction safety environment.
  • Ensure all contractors meet Roeslein & Associates minimum safety and environmental requirements.
  • Assist in coordinating the daily safety activities supporting the operations and construction teams.
  • Assist in building a structured health and safety ownership and accountability program within the company by standardizing and communicating clearly defined safety regulations.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating environmental compliance for hazardous waste, stormwater, and air permits.
  • Assist in providing oversight for worker’s compensation case management.
  • Assist in completing the job assessments for physical demands development.
  • Subject matter expert for the organization in implementing safety best practices across all construction locations.
  • Develop and maintain safety procedures, guidelines, and standards that align with the Renewables Operations group.
  • Assist in planning and implementing safety policies and procedures with local, state, and federal EPA/OSHA rules and regulations and international regulations.
  • Perform Risk Assessments and implement control measures.
  • Perform noise assessments and solvent IH sampling.
  • Perform PPE risk assessments and create task matrixes.
  • Generate fall protection written procedures, risk assessments, and inspections.
  • Write LOTO and confined space machine-specific procedures.
  • Update SDS as needed.
  • Provide solutions to complex environmental, safety, health, and security issues as a safety leader.
  • Drive continuous improvement through safety analyses, audits, and investigations.
  • Participate in project meetings and customer project review meetings.
  • Assist the EHS Manager in the development of safety-related training and procedures.
  • Ability to travel domestically at least 75% of the time.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Have a high-level understanding of construction project scopes, finances, and schedules.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote a positive working environment to achieve the organization’s goals.
  • Accountable for all company team members on site and adhere to the company safety standards.
  • Provide Construction Safety employee’s timely constructive feedback.
  • Provide solutions to complex environmental, safety, health, and security issues as a safety leader.
  • Provide appropriate safety and health, incident prevention, and investigation training for managers and supervisors.
  • Assist management in inspecting project sites to ensure safe and healthful conditions for workers.
  • Establish positive client relationships to ensure future opportunities and open communications.
  • Oversee contractor installation methods to ensure safety and compliance are maintained.
  • Effectively serve as a point of contact with the customer and ensure that communication is handled professionally and on time.
  • Keep proper compliance documentation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Exposure to harsh conditions—such as dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods is possible.  All employees must follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.  Shift work may be required as production demands change.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential function of this job successfully.   While performing the duties of this position, the employee will regularly be required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear, and work in a consistent state of alertness and a safe manner.  Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs. regularly is required. 

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in EHS, Safety Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field or minimum of three (3) years of experience in Construction Safety is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a construction setting is preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving issues on site is required.
  • Ability to make authoritative decisions and recommendations that significantly impact the outcome of project installation activities.
  • Ability to negotiate critical and controversial issues with the executive team, engineers, and managers of other organizations and companies, requiring skills in persuasion and negotiation.
  • Individuals at this level demonstrate a mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding construction safety programs.
  • Mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and planning skills.
  • Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.
  • Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs are required.
  • Effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
