Project Accounting Analyst

Position Summary:
The Project Accounting Analyst supports both project-based and corporate accounting operations. This role is responsible for tracking project financial performance, supporting monthly close processes, and assisting with audits, tax filings, and budgeting. The Analyst reports to the VP of Accounting and works closely with the Corporate Controller and accounting team to ensure cost accuracy, revenue recognition, and internal control compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage project cost tracking, billing, and reporting activities
  • Process job cost adjustments and maintain job cost reports for financial statements
  • Schedule and participate in monthly projection meetings; maintain notes and follow up on accounting action items
  • Review and analyze monthly revenue, gross profit margins, and variances; summarize findings for leadership
  • Monitor unbilled and underbilled balances; reconcile with project A/R
  • Support bank reconciliation and assist with managing corporate cash activities
  • Reconcile intercompany transactions and support journal entry posting
  • Support monthly and year-end accruals and reversals
  • Assist in preparing the annual budget
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external accountants for audit and tax purposes
  • Provide data for insurance renewals and audits
  • Build working knowledge of purchasing, time entry, A/R, A/P, and reporting processes
  • Maintain internal control documentation
  • Identify and support process/system improvements
  • Limited travel (less than 10%) for accounting support at other company locations
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to walk, stand, use hands, reach, climb, kneel, and communicate clearly. Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in public accounting
  • Knowledge of project cost accounting, billing, and financial reporting
  • Understanding of payroll and labor hours and their impact on the general ledger
  • Familiarity with billing and receipt processes
  • Professional, trustworthy, and reliable
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Proficient in time management and multitasking
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); Viewpoint Vista or Oracle Fusion experience a plus
