Position Summary
The Construction Safety Specialist will be responsible for on-site safety coordination domestically and internationally in manufacturing and construction settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal EPA/OSHA regulations.
- Assist in developing a consistent on-site safety culture by clearly communicating expectations and building accountability.
- Help manage workers’ compensation cases and perform ongoing site risk evaluations, including Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
- Contribute to fall protection, confined space, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, including written protocols and inspections.
- Oversee inspections and operations involving critical lifts, rigging, and hot work; manage related permits and safety controls.
- Maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) programs, including selection, distribution, and compliance.
- Deliver training on electrical safety, emergency response, incident prevention, and evacuation procedures.
- Conduct audits, investigations, and implement improvements based on findings.
- Support domestic and international construction activities with safety training and procedural development.
- Act as an on-site safety leader, offering guidance on complex safety and compliance issues.
- Train managers and supervisors on health and safety practices and investigation protocols.
- Assist with workplace inspections and incident investigations, helping to implement preventive measures.
- Stay current with applicable safety standards, including customer-specific and international requirements.
- Travel domestically and internationally up to 75% annually. Trips may last up to three (3) weeks with ten (10) day turnarounds.
- Foster strong working relationships across teams, contractors, and all company locations.
- Consistently operate in a safe and compliant manner, following company and regulatory standards.
Work Environment
Work is conducted in both office and field environments. Short-term exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather is possible. PPE is required in designated areas, and employees must follow safety standards. Shift work may be necessary based on project demands.
Physical Demands
This role requires frequent walking on uneven ground in all weather conditions. Regular standing, climbing, kneeling, crawling, and lifting up to 30 lbs. is required. Must maintain a state of alertness and follow all safety procedures.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Three (3) to seven (7) years of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) experience required.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certifications preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations; international experience is a plus.
- Effective trainer and communicator on safety procedures and expectations.
- Detail-oriented with strong planning, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to acquire certifications such as First Aid/CPR/AED and Six Sigma.
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows-based programs
- Works well with cross-functional teams and external partners
