Position Summary:
This position will serve as the lead piping designer on projects utilizing AutoCAD Plant 3D. This position requires a passionate individual who demonstrates initiative, takes ownership of project work, and exhibits a high level of personal leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop 3D piping models from P&ID’s, specifications, and equipment information.
- Mentor and coach less experienced designers to ensure efficient pipe routing solutions and best practices.
- Collaborate with engineering and project management in technical decision-making throughout the course of a project.
- Lead 3D model design reviews.
- Create well-thought-out, creative, constructible, accurate designs to eliminate errors during fabrication.
- Create and revise P&IDs, PFDs, detailed Piping Orthographics, and Isometrics.
- Create, read, and comprehend line, manual valve, and site tie-in lists.
- Basic knowledge of pipe stress on piping systems.
- Proficient with adequate pipe support details, locations, and spans.
- Review and redline equipment and pipe component vendor drawings as required.
- Modify Plant 3D pipe specifications independently as required.
- Assemble fabrication and installation drawing packages.
- Update drawings using rough sketches and/or requests from engineer/designer.
- Check drawings for correct dimensions, adherence to codes, specifications, and standards.
- Follow and enforce company CAD standards and pipe specifications.
Knowledge / Skill / Ability / Education / Experience:
- Associate degree in Computer-Aided Drafting or a related degree is preferred.
- A minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of experience as a pipe designer is required.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D is required.
- Proficient with Navisworks Freedom/Simulate/Manage.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with Autodesk Vault is preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent organization and planning skills.
- Self-directed and forward-thinking with a strong work ethic.
- Strong interpersonal, listening, questioning, and communication skills.
- Ability to work with shop/fabrication lead to discuss design constructability concerns efficiently and constructively.
- Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
