Position Summary

The Construction Safety Specialist is responsible for on-site safety coordination in manufacturing and construction environments, both domestically and internationally.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and implementing safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, federal, and international EPA/OSHA regulations.
  • Support the development of a structured health and safety ownership and accountability program by standardizing and clearly communicating safety regulations on-site.
  • Provide oversight for workers' compensation case management on-site.
  • Continuously evaluate on-site risks, including the potential development and review of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
  • Develop and enforce written procedures, risk assessments, and inspections for fall protection and elevated work.
  • Oversee the management and inspection of critical lift and rigging equipment.
  • Develop and implement Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and confined space procedures specific to machinery on-site.
  • Provide electrical safety awareness training and ensure compliance with related protocols.
  • Manage and oversee hot work operations, including issuing and tracking hot work permits.
  • Select, distribute, and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Develop, train, and lead emergency response and site evacuation procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement through safety analyses, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Coordinate daily safety-related activities in support of the operations team.
  • Provide safety procedure development and training to support domestic and international construction activities.
  • Act as a safety leader on-site by identifying and implementing solutions to complex environmental, safety, health, and security issues.
  • Deliver safety, health, incident prevention, and investigation training for managers and supervisors.
  • Assist in inspecting workplaces and project sites to ensure safe and compliant working conditions.
  • Support management and supervisors in investigating incidents and implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of domestic and international safety regulations, as well as customer-specific safety requirements, ensuring adherence to the strictest standards.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 75% annually, with trips lasting up to three (3) weeks at a time.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with employees and contractors across all locations.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and compliant manner while adhering to established company and regulatory safety standards.

Work Environment

This role involves both office and field work. Exposure to harsh conditions—including dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and extreme weather—may occur for short periods. Employees must follow all safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment in designated areas. Shift work may be required based on production and project demands.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent walking on uneven terrain, including outdoor conditions in rain, snow, and extreme heat.
  • Regular standing, gripping, handling, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Consistent state of alertness and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. regularly.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability/Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Three (3) to seven (7) years of experience in an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) role required.
  • OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EPA/OSHA regulations for both general industry and construction; international safety regulation experience is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate and train effectively on EHS fundamentals.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to acquire and apply new knowledge, including First Aid/CPR/AED certification and/or Six Sigma training.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows-based programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with co-workers, clients, vendors, and business partners.
