POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mechanical Engineer II will assist Lead Mechanical Engineers in the design and engineering of facility mechanical systems and develop the skills necessary to perform as a Lead Mechanical Engineer on projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform hydraulic, thermal, and code calculations to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective designs.
  • Engineer process and utility piping systems, including specification selection, sizing, and material selection.
  • Provide technical oversight to the piping and mechanical design team to achieve project objectives.
  • Engineer process ductwork systems.
  • Develop Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for process and mechanical support systems.
  • Specify and evaluate mechanical equipment, packaged systems, and specialty components.
  • Oversee the development of plant and site layouts for process equipment and related assets.
  • Coordinate vendor-supplied conveyor systems with process equipment.
  • Prepare mechanical subcontract packages and support the subcontractor selection process.
  • Review vendor data for specification accuracy, code compliance, and completeness.
  • Prepare material take-offs as required.
  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineers on the design of power distribution systems and control panels.
  • Conduct pre-delivery inspections of fabricated, pre-assembled, and unitized system designs.
  • Perform site mechanical inspections and review non-destructive test reports.
  • Participate in plant commissioning activities, including cold and hot startup testing.
  • Assist with operator training, as-built drawings, and turnover package delivery.
  • Travel domestically and internationally (5-20% per year) to support system installation and startup.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships across teams and locations.
  • Follow all safety and company policies to maintain a secure and compliant work environment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in both office and industrial environments. Exposure to harsh conditions, including dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, uneven terrain, and varying weather conditions, may occur for short periods. Travel to job sites, both domestic and international, may be required, with accommodations in some foreign locations differing from U.S. standards. Employees must adhere to all safety regulations and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here represent those necessary to perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties, the employee will regularly be required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Employees must remain alert and work in a safe manner. The ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. regularly is required.

SKILL / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in Mechanical Engineering (required).
  • EIT registration (strongly preferred).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and drafting (preferred).
  • Experience developing P&IDs (preferred).
  • Experience in selecting and specifying pumps, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers (preferred).
  • Knowledge of pressure relief devices such as relief valves, conservation vents, and rupture disks (preferred).
  • Understanding of piping materials and their applications (preferred).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience (strongly preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (required).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities (required).
  • Effective time management skills (required).
  • Ability to interact professionally with colleagues, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Must comply with company core values and operational best practices.
  • Valid driver’s license for travel between St. Louis, MO Headquarters and Red Bud, IL as needed.
