POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Project Manager position is responsible for independently representing Roeslein & Associates in all matters involving the prospecting for and the proposing, negotiating, securing, and implementation of our projects and will serve as the customer's single point of interface throughout each of his/her projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Business Development in developing estimates and schedule for proposals; presenting proposals to existing and potential customers; and developing and maintaining existing customer relationships; and assist Business Development in developing new customer relationships.
  • Negotiate new contracts or contract changes, preserving established margins.  This responsibility includes finalizing all terms and conditions of the contract (i.e., price, delivery, scope, insurance, taxes, payment terms, penalties, etc.).
  • Manage, interpret and enforce existing customer contracts.
  • Maintain continuous contact with customer to keep them completely informed of project status.  Hold regular project meetings.
  • Provide a single source of project information for the customer through an intimate knowledge of all aspects of the project.  This knowledge includes technical issues as well as cost and schedule issues.
  • Work closely with technical team members to execute engineering and design efforts.
  • Provide technical experience to lead design development.
  • Steer vital project activities for which the customer is responsible (e.g., building design, building construction, vendor information, equipment deliveries, etc.).
  • Coordinate and authorize customer invoicing.
  • Establish a complete and detailed project schedule for each project; a thoroughly documented scope of work for the project; and a project budget in accordance with Roeslein’s cost accounting system.
  • Secure adequate project resources for each project. 
  • Plan for and secure any required subcontractors, including (but not limited to) engineers, consultants, fabricators, electrical and mechanical contractors, clerks, schedulers, administrative support, etc.
  • Implement bidding process for project subcontractors to obtain the most competitive prices.
  • Negotiating and authorizing terms and conditions of project subcontracts, and authorize subcontract changes.
  • Manage, interpret and enforce the terms of all project subcontracts.
  • Oversee, control and authorize all project-related expenditures.
  • Provide monthly project cost projections as compared with the project’s estimated budget; and monthly reports of project cost projections.
  • Implement, track and enforce the project schedule.  Maintain all deadlines established with customer.
  • Track and steer non-Roeslein activities in the project schedule that will impact Roeslein activities. 
  • Present the contracted scope of work to the project team and ensure complete understanding and acceptance of responsibilities.
  • Provide thorough communication with the project team.
  • Manage the input from all project resource groups.
  • Allow sufficient time in project schedules to ensure quality work.
  • Preserve Roeslein’s established quality standards.
  • Maintain the Roeslein’s high standard of ethics.
  • Ensure fair and equitable treatment of all support resources assisting the project.
  • Travel domestically and internationally ranging from 10-50% per year and up to four (4) weeks duration.
  • Regularly travel between St. Louis, MO Headquarters and manufacturing facility in Red Bud, IL.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements. 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Training, developing, and mentoring Project Coordinators, Assistant Project Managers, and Project Managers.
  • Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization’s goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere.  Exposure to harsh conditions—such as:  dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible.  Must be able to travel to jobsites both domestically and internationally; living accommodations in some foreign assignments may not meet expected U.S. standards.  All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.   While performing the duties of this position, the employee will is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear.  Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis is required. 

 

KNOWLEDGE /SKILLS / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Building / Construction Management, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience in a technically related field is required.  It is strongly preferred that seven (7) years of that experience be as a Project Engineer, Resident Construction Engineer, or Project Coordinator. 
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and / or registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated history of in strategic and tactical goal setting and attainment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and excellent presentation skills are required.
  • Strong organization, leadership, negotiation, and delegation skills are required.
  • Must be able to interact effectively and diplomatically with a number of diverse people, both on an individual basis as well as within group situations.
  • Proven ability to develop lasting, positive customer relationships based on the ability to focus on customer satisfaction and to obtain the customer's trust.
  • Strong financial background including operations budget development, cost control, and capital spending justification.
  • Working knowledge of contract laws, jobsite safety procedures, and purchasing practices.
  • Specific estimating skills for engineering, construction management, and mechanical I electrical construction services.
  • Working knowledge of common scheduling concepts such as CPM, PERT, Gantt charts, resource loading, etc.; skill in the use of R&A's scheduling software tools and must be able to create schedule reports for all audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required.
  • Ability to acquire a working knowledge of Roeslein’s cost accounting system, gross profit targets, standards, policies, procedures, and general business philosophies.
  • Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs are required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
  • Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
  • Must have a valid driver license.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
