POSITION SUMMARY:

The Electrical Designer II shall generate design documents with moderate input from a Project Engineer or Senior Designer, and will need to work from sketches, marked-up drawings, and/or vendor information provided by Project Engineers and Senior Designers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
  • Responsible for learning and following established AutoCAD standardization as provided by Roeslein’s Engineering / Drafting Standards.
  • Develop the majority of the project documents based on project responsibilities and reference material obtained from similar past projects without specific input from a Project Engineer.
  • Complete drawings and other documents in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Create and maintain drawing files required for a project through the Drawing Control Index (DCI).
  • Prepare and assemble bidding and construction documents.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 10% per year.
  • Create panel layouts and work from engineering notation to create schematics.
  • Interface with equipment and material vendors.
  • Prepare and submit purchase orders of materials and verify material at vendor and RMF.
  • Work alongside RMF’s shipping department to tag and catalog items for shipping.
  • Interface with assembly teams and panel shops at RMF or other locations.
  • Perform assembly and construction visits to verify adherence to design and record changes.
  • Create conduit, cable tray, and wire schedules, and use them to create layout drawings with moderate input from Project Engineer.
  • Create power wire schedules and one line drawings.
  • Create loop diagrams based on project information.
  • Design instrumentation and device stands with moderate input from Project Engineer.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization’s goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere.  Exposure to harsh conditions—such as:  dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible.  All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.   While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear; and work in a consistent state of alertness and in a safe manner.  Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis is required. 

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • An Associate’s degree in Computer-Aided Drafting, Applied Science, or related technical education is required.
  • At least three (3) - five (5) years of experience in conduit schedules and layout work, cable tray schedules and layout work, schematics, power one lines, and field verification and auditing experience.
  • Knowledge of drafting skills and methods is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD 2014 or above software and associated file structures, electricity, and the various electrical symbols used.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD 3-D is preferred, but not required.  Must be willing and able to learn this subject matter.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical is preferred, but not required.  Must be willing and able to learn this subject matter.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude to view cable tray and conduit locations for 2-D drawings as well as 3-D.
  • Ability to interpret engineers and designer’s notes and sketches for incorporation into design documents is necessary.
  • Be able to create conduit, cable tray, and wire schedules, and use those schedules to create layout drawings.
  • Be able to create power wire schedules and one line drawings.
  • Be able to create panel layouts and work from engineering notation to create schematics.
  • Must be prepared to complete field verification work and site auditing.
  • Develop neat, well-organized drawings meeting established standards.
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written is required.
  • Computer skills and in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs are required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
  • Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
