POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Engineer III will function as the Lead Mechanical Engineer on projects and will provide direction and assistance to Mechanical Engineers, Piping Designers, and Mechanical Designers working on facility Mechanical systems. In this position, the Mechanical engineer will demonstrate and lead more complex system engineering and design aspects. This position will have direct interaction and responsibility with the Project Manager and customer team.

MECHANICAL ENGINEER ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform as Lead Mechanical Engineer on projects with responsibility from schematic design to fully commissioned systems.
- Review support engineer’s calculations, drawings, and work for accuracy, standardization, and completeness.
- Manage and be responsible for engineering budget and schedule for Mechanical Engineering project activities.
- Interface with governmental permitting authorities.
- Perform hydraulic, thermal, and code calculations required to ensure safe, compliant, and economical designs.
- Engineer process and utility piping systems including specification selection, sizing, and materials selection.
- Technically oversee piping and mechanical project design team to achieve technical and schedule objectives.
- Engineer process ductwork systems.
- Develop Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's) for process and support mechanical systems.
- Specify and evaluate mechanical equipment, packaged systems, and specialty parts.
- Oversee development of plant and site general arrangement of process equipment and associated assets.
- Coordinate vendor provided conveyor systems with process equipment.
- Prepare mechanical subcontract packages and participate in subcontractor selection process.
- Review vendor data for specification accuracy, code compliance, and completeness.
- Prepare material take-offs as needed.
- Coordinate with project Electrical Engineers to facilitate design of power distribution systems and control panels.
- Perform pre-delivery inspections on all fabricated, pre-assembled, and unitized system designs in our factory.
- Perform site mechanical completeness inspections and review of non-destructive test reports.
- Participate in plant cold and hot commissioning activities to achieve successful contract performance test.
- Assist in plant operator training, issuance of as-built drawings, and turn-over package delivery to client.
- Travel domestically and internationally ranging from 5-20% per year; to assist in the installation and startup of process systems.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with employees at all locations.
- Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner, and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead efforts in development of estimates, proposals, and other deliverables required for Phase 1 packages.
- Lead efforts on initial site visits for evaluation of mechanical systems.
- Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization's goals.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in an office and an uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions—such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. Must be able to travel to jobsites both domestically and internationally; living accommodations in some foreign assignments may not meet expected U.S. standards. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will, regularly, be required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear; and work in a consistent state of alertness and in a safe manner. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis is required.
SKILL / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- EIT registration is required; PE Registration is strongly preferred.
- Ability to independently evaluate, select, design, typical facility mechanical systems and equipment.
- Exercises sound judgement in making decisions and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
- Experience with selection and specification of pumps, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers is required.
- Experience with pressure relief devices such as relief valves, conservation vents, and rupture disks is required.
- Knowledge of typical piping and piping component materials and appropriate applications is required.
- Ability to manage time and efforts towards completing designs on time and within budgets is required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience is required.
- Excellent communication skills; both oral and written is required.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required.
- Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs are required.
- Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
- Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.

- Must have a valid driver license to safely commute between St. Louis, MO Headquarters and Red Bud, IL as needed.
