POSITION SUMMARY:

The Controls Technology Specialist will be responsible for providing on-site technical support on Can Lines, Alternative Energy, and Process Energy projects to customers and Roeslein’s Mechanical and Systems Engineering teams.  This will include working independently or alongside the mechanical and controls commissioning teams, provide emergency site visits, and provide on-site support of equipment upgrade installs and commissioning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

On Customer Site

  • Provide professional representation of the RNG Construction Services Group, in daily functions that include, but not limited to customer training, commissioning, and start up.

  • Provide support to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM’s) technicians that support customer plant commissioning and start‐up activities as required, as well as on‐going support after start‐up.

  • Perform pre-commissioning checks on all wiring to and from the equipment

  • Assist the Line Control personnel with I/O checks and FCO

  • Implement the pressure and leak test plan of Area 3000, 4000, and 5000 as applicable.

  • Implement the purge process plan of Area 3000, 4000, and 5000 as applicable.

  • Implement the purge process plan between area 1000 and 3000 with raw biogas

  • Modify, debug PLC software, and understand the various communication networks used.

  • Modify and debug OEM and Roeslein PLC controls, instruments, and systems for industrial uses, including motors, VFD set-up parameters, and conveyance systems.

  • Provide daily job-site progress reports using Roesleins standard format.

  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.

  • Travel domestically and internationally ranging from 30‐60% per year. This may require up to four (4) weeks on-site at a time during commissioning and start‐up; occasionally more.

Off Site

  • Independently work on technical assignments, such as participating in Pre‐Delivery Inspections (PDI’s) and equipment commissioning.

  • Complete concise pre‐delivery inspection (PDI) reports using Roeslein standard format.

  • Participate in Project reviews with Project Teams including Engineering and Project Management

  • Provide technical reviews of RNG process layouts for any potential problems, oversites, or enhancements and provide feedback to the Engineering Group.

  • Drive continuous improvement throughout the department.

  • Provide support to personnel in the RNG Construction Services Group, and provide technical support to Business Development, Project Management, and Engineering.

  • Assist with the development of SOP’s for Operations and Maintenance of the RNG gas cleaning equipment using Roesleins standard format.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office and in an uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear; and work in a consistent state of alertness and in a safe manner. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis is required.

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates Degree in Engineering or a High School Diploma with 5 years of operational or maintenance experience in a manufacturing facility is required.

  • Prior experience in the RNG or Process Energy process is a plus.

  • Knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting is preferred.

  • Must be able to read and comprehend electrical schematics.

  • Must have a good understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles; understanding of hydraulic systems and schematics is a plus.

  • Knowledge of compressed air systems, vacuum systems, cooling water systems, and other related manufacturing plant support systems is preferred.

  • Ability to troubleshoot machinery and production process problems is required.

  • Must be able to apply knowledge from prior experience to new applications and new industries.

  • Must be able to present complex manufacturing concepts to customers with technical and non-technical backgrounds.

  • Must effectively interact with co‐workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts (e.g. Senior Management, Engineers, Maintenance, and Operations).

  • Computer skills and an in‐depth knowledge of Microsoft Office based programs are required.

  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written is required.

  • Exceptional attention to detail.

  • Excellent organization and planning skills.

  • Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.

  • Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
