JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President, Enterprise Risk, this role is involved in establishing responsibility in the company to evaluate and monitor risks on an enterprise-wide basis by assessing the level/impact of risks and informing management. The incumbent works with the Vice President, Enterprise Risk in assisting management in evaluating risks and assigning ownership by developing a plan/process to mitigate risks, as appropriate, and in monitoring and providing oversight of identified risk areas. This role identifies, assesses, makes recommendations, and assigns responsibility to manage and mitigate the company’s prioritized risks. The incumbent plays a significant role in the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of enterprise risk processes to ensure communication of risks and monitoring of status of implementation of risk management strategies to Senior/Executive Management and the Board.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

       Enterprise Risk Management and Assessment (40%)

·       Supports Vice President, Enterprise Risk in overseeing, monitoring, and optimizing the company’s risk management processes to ensure the effective identification, assessment, and mitigation of prioritized risks.

·       Assists Vice President, Enterprise Risk in providing oversight of identified risks:

    • Identifying and evaluating potential risks as to their impact on business operations in coordination with the Board, Senior/Executive Management, and risk owners, including considering operational, financial, strategic, and compliance-related risks specific to the metal service center sector
    • Gathering and compiling data related to identified risks from internal and external resources, including reviewing pertinent information related to business operations
    • Determining the company’s risk appetite (including key stakeholders and CEO for higher risk areas)
    • Assigning responsibility for mitigation
    • Partnering with applicable risk owners to develop applicable processes to mitigate then assess structure and resources to properly mitigate risks, while ensuring that clear ownership, responsibility, and accountability exists
    • Driving accountability for continued, consistent risk mitigation through established and ongoing monitoring

·       Supervises and monitors the enterprise risk processes across the company in coordination with Vice President, Enterprise Risk, enterprise risk champions/points-of-contacts (POCs) and risk owners:

    • Works closely with POCs and risk owners in various departments to integrate risk management practices into their processes 
    • Obtains and reviews relevant data to provide meaningful insights and trends
    • Gathers, examines, and assesses the risk reports provided by the POCs and risk owners and monitors the status of risk management strategies and action plans
    • Familiarizes with relevant standards, regulations, and requirements in coordination with Legal, POCs, risk owners and subject matter experts
    • Assesses and explains how new requirements may affect the company
    • Facilitates adequate communication concerning key risks and provides guidance on ideas related to enterprise risk processes developed by POCs and risk owners
    • Assists risk owners as appropriate

·       Assists in driving the continuous improvement of the company’s current enterprise risk processes:

    • Creates and maintains applicable enterprise risk framework, policies and procedures aligned to the company’s objectives and departmental goals
    • Familiarizes with risk management tools and technologies
    • Stays abreast of emerging risks and industry trends and their potential application in risk management and regulatory compliance through continuous learning and professional development

        ESG Management (30%)

  • Supports the Vice President, Enterprise Risk, in defining objectives, identifying stakeholders, developing relevant metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), to measure and track progress on environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives based on identified material ESG issues and in alignment with relevant goals and expectations of the company (Executives and Board) and other stakeholders
  •  Track public trends including supplier and customer informational requests for ESG information.
  • Facilitates and monitors corporate/subsidiaries/divisions (FOCs) ESG plans and communications (e.g., data gathering and updating of rating agency questionnaires including interacting with rating agencies as needed)
  • Provides information to ESG Strategic Team for decision making on ESG communications.
  •  Leads ESG Working Team to provide company data and narratives to disclose ESG public information.
  • Work with Corporate Communications to update company website with current ESG information to better tell our company story.
  • Coordinates with stakeholders to gather feedback, concerns on progress of ESG initiatives, including assisting with completion of surveys
  • Together with Vice President, Enterprise Risk, continuously monitors and evaluates ESG performance over time. 

       Annual Risk Assessment Results and Reporting (10%)

  • Supports the Vice President, Enterprise Risk in companywide risk assessments
  • Assists in preparing reports highlighting findings, explaining key risk indicators, and recommending solutions/mitigation strategies to Senior/Executive Management and to the Audit and Risk Management Committees of the Board of Directors
  • Assists in preparing ESG reports and any disclosures in relation to the company’s sustainability efforts and ESG goals, including results of any benchmarking of ESG performance against industry peers and best practices

       Incident Reporting Tracking System (10%)

  • Assists in managing the company’s Ethics point hotline reporting system including user access, location updates, Board reports and annual benchmarking
  • Assesses risk management solutions to assist in enterprise risk management 

        Risk Awareness (10%)

  • Assists in fostering a risk-aware culture across the company and shares best practices as needed
  • Builds relationships with key stakeholders across departments for successful risk management

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in development and monitoring of business continuity and contingency plans to manage business interruptions and other emergencies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

ANNUAL SALARY: $150,000.00 - $220,000.00 / Depending on Experience

LOCATION: Los Angeles or Pasadena area - Working a minimum of three days per week in the Pasadena office


Required Skills

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Risk Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience and knowledge in risk management, internal audit, internal controls compliance, cyber risk management, metals/manufacturing processes or related fields, as well as public accounting or other compliance position with leadership/supervisory responsibilities. At least 10 years of related industry experience (e.g., metal service center sector with international presence) is preferred
  • Risk management or audit related certifications (e.g., Certified in Risk and Information Systems (CRISC), Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP), Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)) or advance degree is preferred

       Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated skills and ability to build and maintain organization-wide systems and processes
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills and experience
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to  leverage data for risk analysis and decision-making
  • Must be detail-oriented, exhibit thoroughness and diligence and able to work independently
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and convey risk information to stakeholders at all levels of the company
  • Risk, audit and/or IT process management experience preferably in the metal service center industry
  • Excellent organizational, project and time management skills, including ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives
  • Knowledge in performance monitoring and reporting to track and communicate outcomes
