Chapel Steel is currently seeking a qualified candidate to join our accounting team! As a General Ledger Accountant, you will be responsible for handling and supporting our accounting department with day to day accounting duties. You should possess 0-5 years of general ledger and trial balance experience. We are currently working remotely, but require in-office work every Thursday. Job Function

  • Prepares and enter monthly journal entries.
  • Prepares sales tax filings.
  • Ensures monthly journal entries are accurate and recorded timely by verifying that journal entries agree to all supporting documentation.
  • Produces various system and internal reports for management review and/or inclusion in account reconciliations/journal entries.
  • Prepares various general ledger account reconciliations, account analysis, and supporting schedules, ensuring that all reconciling items are adequately explained.
  • Prepares monthly bank and cash receipts reconciliation packages including deposits and cash receipt postings.
  • Reviews cost reconciliation reports for possible inventory costing issues and aged payables.
  • Records/tracks day to day transactions (banking, payroll, sales) for purposes of monthly reporting activities.
  • Reconciles and reviews banking transactions including cash deposits, incoming wires, and credit card transactions.
  • Enters into and maintains fixed asset purchases and leases into the company’s sub-ledger system(s).
  • Adheres to prescribed policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Interfaces regularly with others within the department and accounting, clerical and operations personnel in other locations, departments and constituents outside the company.
  • Assists with the weekly cash disbursement check runs.
  • Responsible for adhering to safety processes and protocols.
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting required
  • Understanding of basic Accounting concepts and principles required.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required. 
  • High level of interpersonal skills and ability to initiate and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers required.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills required.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including analysis, knowledge and experience, and judgment required.
  • Strong computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft applications, particularly Microsoft Excel required.

Required Experience

  • 0-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
