Overview
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for keeping inbound and outbound shipments accurate, safe, and on schedule. You will coordinate daily shipping and receiving activity, verify documentation, inspect incoming materials, and lead a small team of associates. If you are organized, dependable, and comfortable balancing people, paperwork, and a fast-moving warehouse, this role offers plenty to own.
What you will do
Shipping and receiving operations
- Supervise and coordinate inbound and outbound shipments, including raw materials, finished goods, and equipment
- Verify shipments against purchase orders, bills of lading, packing slips, and other required documentation
- Inspect incoming materials for damage, quality concerns, and compliance with order specifications
- Prepare shipping documents, manifests, and labels in accordance with carrier requirements
- Schedule pickups and deliveries with company trucks, freight carriers, and couriers
Team leadership
- Lead, train, and mentor a small team of shipping and receiving associates
- Assign daily work and monitor performance against throughput, accuracy, and service goals
- Conduct pre-shift meetings to communicate priorities, safety updates, and daily expectations
- Support the onboarding of new team members and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
Safety and workplace standards
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, company safety requirements, and established shipping procedures
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S standards
- Report shipment discrepancies, damaged goods, safety concerns, and near-misses promptly
May be modified from time to time. Other duties, tasks, and work may be assigned.
What success looks like
- Inbound and outbound shipments are processed accurately and on time
- Shipping documents are complete, organized, and matched to the correct materials
- The team understands daily priorities and works safely and efficiently
- Damage, discrepancies, and delays are identified early and communicated promptly
- The shipping and receiving area remains clean, organized, and ready for the next order
What we are looking for
- High school diploma or GED required
- One to two years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, or manufacturing
- Previous experience in a supervisory, team lead, or similar leadership role
- Ability to read and interpret purchase orders, bills of lading, packing slips, and shipping documents
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and warehouse or ERP systems
- Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Valid forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification after hire
Preferred experience
- Experience using inventory management software such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or a similar system
- Familiarity with DOT and OSHA requirements, including hazardous-material shipping procedures
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing or 5S workplace organization principles
Physical requirements
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in an active warehouse environment
- Ability to safely work around forklifts, freight, and material-handling activity
