Job Title:  Shipping And Receiving Associate   

Department:      Inventory & Logistics 

Reports To:  Logistics/Facilities Manager 

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt, Full-Time  

 

JOB SUMMARY 

We are seeking a Shipping & Receiving Associate to become an integral part of our team! A Shipping and Receiving Associate is a key contributor to the smooth flow of goods within an organization. In this role, you will help receive incoming shipments of raw material/merchandise (recording incoming product, unpacking, and preparing it for production), and process outgoing order shipments (package, label, and prepare for pickup). 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Prepare and pack outgoing shipments, ensuring accurate labeling and documentation. 

  • Coordinate with carriers and logistics providers to schedule pickups and deliveries. 

  • Receive incoming shipments, verify contents against packing slips, and inspect for damages. 

  • Record and report discrepancies or damages to the appropriate personnel. 

  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels for both incoming and outgoing goods. 

  • Update inventory systems and databases to reflect real-time stock levels. 

  • Conduct quality checks on received and outgoing products to ensure compliance with quality standards. 

  • Report any non-conformances or issues to the relevant parties. 

  • Generate and maintain shipping and receiving documentation, including packing lists and shipping labels. 

  • Keep organized records of all transactions and shipments. 

  • Collaborate with internal departments, such as purchasing, sales, and warehouse, to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment. 

  • Communicate with suppliers, carriers, and customers to resolve shipment-related inquiries. 

  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. 

  • Implement and follow proper handling procedures for hazardous materials, if applicable. 

  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment as needed for shipping and receiving tasks. 

  • Conduct routine maintenance checks on equipment. 

  • Address and resolve issues related to shipping, receiving, and inventory discrepancies. 

  • Work with team members to find solutions to operational challenges. 

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance the efficiency of shipping and receiving operations. 

  • Propose and implement changes to streamline workflows. 

  • Ensure compliance with shipping and receiving regulations, including customs regulations for international shipments. 

  • Stay informed about changes in shipping laws and regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES   

Not applicable.  This position has no direct reports.  

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Familiarity with shipping software, inventory management systems, and basic computer skills. 

  • Ability to use forklifts and other warehouse equipment. 

  • Stamina for standing and performing physical tasks for extended periods. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and support overall warehouse operations. 

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational needs. 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED    

  • High attention to detail in verifying shipments, labeling, and maintaining accurate records. 

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. 

  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Ability to lift and move heavy packages and operate warehouse equipment.  

  •  Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE   

High school diploma or equivalent.  

Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations is preferred. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS    

None required 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS    

  • Occasional reaching/working overhead, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling   

  • Frequent walking   

  • Continuous standing and repetitive hand motion   

  • Lifting requirements include occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and continuous lifting of up to 15 pounds.    

 

EMPLOYEE EVALUATION SUMMARY   

  • Introductory -- Will be written at approximately 80 days after employment and will be used to determine whether employee has sufficiently met and performed the job requirements, and will indicate whether employment will continue 

  • Annual Reviews – Employee will be given a formal regular annual review, which assesses productivity and demonstrated business skills and accomplishments for the previous period.  

WORK SCHEDULE   

Hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm. You are required to be at your workstation from the start of your shift to the completion of your shift Monday thru Friday.
