Your new opportunity

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager Government Relations & Public Policy, an exciting opportunity has become available for a passionate and experienced Senior Adviser – Policy & Research to join RAA’s Government & Public Policy team.

 

In this influential role, you will lead the development of compelling evidence-based public policy positions, conduct high-quality research and analysis, and provide strategic advice on RAA’s advocate priorities and direction.

 

You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders, government, and industry to ensure our public voice is evidence-based, insightful, and strongly aligned to the needs of our members and South Australia’s future.

 

You will also coordinate internal policy forums, draft strategic briefing materials, monitor key policy developments, and support external engagement through compelling policy content and research outputs.

 

You will be instrumental in:

 

  • Developing credible public policy positions and briefing notes that inform RAA’s advocacy efforts.
  • Leading research initiatives including surveys to uncover insights on key member issues and public policy topics.
  • Producing high-quality submissions, reports, and correspondence to government and industry stakeholders.
  • Monitoring government and parliamentary developments relevant to RAA’s interests.
  • Building collaborative relationships with research institutions, advocacy bodies and internal teams.
  • Supporting digital and communications teams to ensure advocacy messaging is aligned with current policy positions and data.

 

What will set you apart from the rest

 

You are a skilled communicator and policy thinker with a passion for research, advocacy, and influencing positive change. With a strong understanding of public policy frameworks and government processes, you bring energy, clarity, and curiosity to your work.

 

At RAA, we hire on cultural add first and technical fit second! However, to be successful in this role, you will need to have:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in public policy, economics, politics or a relevant field.
  • Extensive experience in a policy, research, or government relations role.
  • Exceptional research and writing skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear, compelling insights.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
  • A solid understanding of policy cycles, South Australia’s economic drivers, as well as transport, tourism and energy challenges.
  • Experience preparing submissions, policy briefs and reports for a range of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate research into action and influence policy outcomes.
