The Portfolio Planning Manager plays a critical role in ensuring a structured, transparent, and value-driven approach to work intake and prioritisation. By integrating strategic planning with Agile delivery, this role balances internal ideation and discovery with external business unit requests, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives, funding priorities, and delivery capacity. Through strong governance, data-driven decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration, the Portfolio Planning Manager optimises resource allocation, mitigates risks, and enhances portfolio performance—driving technology excellence and business value at RAA.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up day-one tools, templates, and frameworks to support prioritisation and intake of work.
- Work with Product Owners Program Managers and Scrum Masters to set clear delivery guidelines and plan work in quarterly cycles based on key program milestones.
- Rank priorities and focus on the right work using data-based discussions.
- Create stage gates to ensure effective governance and decision-making.
- Have decisive conversations about stopping or commencing work based on analytics and strategic priorities.
- Partner with governance bodies to ensure compliance and oversight.
- Measure and quantify success metrics, engaging the right stakeholders at the right time.
About you
You’re a strategic thinker with a passion for turning complexity into clarity. Confident in both data and dialogue, you thrive in fast-paced environments where influencing, problem-solving, and structure-building are key. You enjoy working cross-functionally to drive alignment, value, and meaningful outcomes.
- Proven experience in portfolio management in hybrid Agile/waterfall environments
- Strong analytical skills and experience using data to drive decisions
- Excellent communication and influencing skills across all levels of the business
- Expertise in prioritisation frameworks, scheduling, and governance models
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Confluence, and Jira (Planview experience desirable)
- Ability to build and embed fit-for-purpose tools, templates, and workflows
- A collaborative approach with a knack for engaging the right people at the right time
- Demonstrated success in driving technology excellence and business value through effective portfolio management practices.
