Position Summary: 

The Business Intelligence Developer will work closely with Business Intelligence and Reporting Analysts to understand business processes and convert those needs into data models for use in creating reports, tools, and frameworks to support the university in making effective, data-driven business decisions. The BI Developer reports to the Director of Business Intelligence and Reporting and is a member of the Campus Technology Services (CTS) division

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrate an attitude and behaviors that supports the mission and core values of the department and the university.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources
  • Create Business Intelligence tools to include physical data models and dimensional models
  • Develop a deep understanding of the data tables and relationships as well as the BI assets within business functional domains to become a subject matter expert
  • Be able to understand the context for the data well enough to clean and transform it into a form useful for subsequent analysis
  • Conduct thorough schema mapping and diagramming
  • Support and maintain existing web applications and related projects
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Required

  • Expert-level relational database and data warehouse experience, understanding of SQL Server, Oracle, or other database and data warehouse products
  • Expert in SQL, database structure, and dimensional modeling
  • Experience with ETL (or ELT) Data Preparation with a firm understanding of how to shape datasets within a mixed environment
  • Ability to create data sets for use across the organization
  • Ability to create technical design documentation in adherence to business, source system, target report, and data quality requirements
  • Deep understanding of Data Governance, data security, and data privacy measures
  • Ability to actualize data requirements
  • BI stack experience (SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS)
  • Knowledge of C# and ASP.Net Web Applications
  • Knowledge of Visual Studio development

Desired

  • Strong knowledge of Oracle SQL/T-SQL
  • Knowledge of consuming data from REST/SOAP API sources
  • Knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming and SOLID Programming Design Principles
  • Knowledge of Ellucian’s Banner or similar higher ed/municipal ERP system
  • Strong abilities with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to build ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Big Data experience utilizing tools such as Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse, Azure, Snowflake, or Hadoop
  • Familiarity with Toad Data Point IDE
  • 3+ years of experience writing advanced SQL, performance tuning of BI queries, data modeling, and data mining from multiple sources (SQL, ETL, data warehousing)
  • 3+ years’ experience developing database systems
  • 3+ years’ experience with ETL technologies such as SSIS or Python
  • 3+ years’ experience with data modeling for OLAP systems

Required Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in data analytics, information systems, computer sciences, or a related field is required
  • A suitable combination of education and experience may be substituted to meet minimum qualifications.
