Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Adult Medicine Patient Services Associate - Brooklyn.

In this role, the successful candidate The Patient Service Associate performs diversified clerical functions in Registration/Information, Appointments, Patient Care modules and other general areas such as Cashiering and Medical Records. Duties may vary depending upon the needs of the work site. They maintain the security and confidentiality of patient information at all times.

Job Responsibilities:

The Patient Service Associate (PSA) serves as an important member of the healthcare team and is often the first point of contact for patients. The PSA provides exceptional customer service while supporting the efficient operation of the practice. Responsibilities include patient registration, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, telephone communication, check-in/check-out, and coordination of patient needs.

The PSA is expected to demonstrate professionalism, compassion, cultural sensitivity, confidentiality, and a commitment to providing a positive patient experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, visitors, and staff in a courteous, welcoming, and professional manner.
  • Register new and established patients accurately and ensure demographic and insurance information is current.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel patient appointments according to department guidelines.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and obtain required patient information and documentation.
  • Collect copayments, balances, and other applicable patient payments in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Check patients in and out efficiently and accurately.
  • Answer telephone calls promptly and professionally and direct calls to the appropriate staff member or department.
  • Respond to patient questions and concerns and escalate issues appropriately when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and protect patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Obtain and maintain required referrals, authorizations, and other documentation as applicable.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Assist with maintaining an organized and efficient front-desk environment.
  • Support department workflow and assist team members during periods of high patient volume.
  • Provide patients with information regarding services, appointments, policies, and available resources.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse cultural, social, and healthcare needs of patients and families.
  • Follow all organizational policies, procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, quality improvement activities, and other departmental initiatives.
  • Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, accountability, and professionalism.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional healthcare, medical office, or customer service training preferred.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a healthcare, medical office, customer service, or administrative setting preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records and/or practice management systems preferred.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information appropriately.

  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn electronic health record and scheduling systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to use a computer and telephone for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move office supplies and materials as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a HS Diploma Required
2+ years relevant experience.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Familiarity or prior experience with office setting
Prior customer service experience
Must be articulate with good interpersonal skills.
Must have knowledge of computer keyboard able to type a minimum of 20 words per minute.
Must be able to accurately enter data
Willingness to devote the time required completing assigned tasks on schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:
Patient Relations experience

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $50,936.42 - $50,936.42 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
