Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Scientist. We are seeking a Research Scientist to contribute to a growing portfolio of research focused on promoting early relational health, early literacy, and healthy child development at the PlayReadVIP National Center within the Department of Pediatrics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. The PlayReadVIP team (led by PI: Alan Mendelsohn, MD; playreadvip.org) is dedicated in part to developing and evaluating interventions aimed at promoting parent-child interactions to enhance school readiness in low-income children. Our multidisciplinary team of researchers brings together experts from a wide range of fields, including pediatrics, developmental psychology, and education.

Job Responsibilities:

Scientific Responsibilities:

• Lead and contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of behavioral and implementation science research studies
• Develop research protocols, study procedures, data collection tools, and evaluation plans
• Design and conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses and interpret findings to inform research and program development 
• Collaborate with PIs, collaborators, staff, and representatives of hospitals, universities, and agencies involved
• Lead and support research examining implementation, dissemination, adaptation and sustainability of early relational health interventions across healthcare and community settings
• Design and study culturally responsive adaptations of PlayReadVIP for diverse populations including international adaptation efforts
• Work across diverse settings including health care, home visiting, early education and child care, and the community
• Coordinate and oversee transcription and coding of videotapes of parent/child interactions (including training and supervising of staff and volunteers, development of coding schemes, and overseeing reliability and fidelity of coding) 
• Coordinate and oversee assessment procedures broadly
• Oversee data quality, management, coding procedures, fidelity measures, and quality assurance across projects
• Assist with other research projects as needed
• Provide scientific and operational leadership and support across multiple research projects including international initiatives, childcare partnerships, and new collaborations
• Develop project timelines, monitor milestones, and coordinate activities across multidisciplinary teams and external collaborators
• Manage general administrative tasks including but not limited to leading meetings, communicating with our external partners, and training new staff members
• Ensure compliance with study protocols, regulatory requirements, and data security procedures 
• Supervise and provide mentorship for research coordinators, assistants, interns, students, residents, clinical and postdoctoral fellows, and other project staff as appropriate
• Administrative assistance with other research projects as needed
• Develop and maintain grant, financial, and other regulatory records, including budgetary and contracting materials and Institutional Review Board materials
• Lead and assist with grant reporting, progress reports, and other sponsor deliverables
• Lead and support manuscript writing activities for peer-reviewed publications
• Present research findings at local, national, and international scientific meetings
• Translate research findings into reports and presentations for clinical, academic, community and policymaking audiences
• Participate in developing new research initiatives and strategic partnerships to expand the impact of the PlayReadVIP National Center

Project Leadership and Management:

• Provide scientific and operational leadership and support across multiple research projects including international initiatives, childcare partnerships, and new collaborations
• Develop project timelines, monitor milestones, and coordinate activities across multidisciplinary teams and external collaborators
• Manage general administrative tasks including but not limited to leading meetings, communicating with our external partners, and training new staff members

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a MS degree and 2-4 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in developmental psychology, education, neuroscience, implementation science, public health, child development, or related field
3+ years of research experience, and previous experience supervising employees, students, or volunteers
Strong and independent writing skills and communication skills
Demonstrated interest in early child development, parenting/early relational health, impacts of poverty on child development, program adaptation across populations and settings, implementation science
Proficiency with database and statistical software required (for example, Excel, SPSS, R, STATA, REDCap); previous experience with database development preferred
Demonstrated experience in scientific writing, manuscript preparation, and grant development is strong preferred
Experience working on international collaborations, implementation research, or culturally responsive adaptation is strongly preferred
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally (depending on project needs), including multi-day site visits and periodic extended international travel
Position will be based in person in New York City (some hybrid availability) with collaboration and expected travel across domestic and international sites.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58,500.00 - $81,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
