Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Student Intern.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for providing professional legal support service to attorneys in the form of basic legal research, drafting of legal and business communications. Advises and provides guidance to various Hospital departments concerning patient care issues and regulatory matters, including HIPAA/HITECH, patient safety, medical staff privileges and graduate medical education, as well as employment and research issues.
The position is ideal for a student hoping to gain exposure to healthcare legal issues in a hospital in-house legal office. A demonstrated interest in health care issues is preferred but not required. Feedback and mentoring will be provided on a daily basis.
Job Responsibilities:
General Responsibilities include:
- Assisting attorneys in the Office of General Counsel in advising various Hospital departments on patient care issues and regulatory matters, including HIPAA/HITECH, patient safety, medical staff privileges and graduate medical education, as well as employment and research issues. The intern will assist in researching applicable Federal, New York State and New York City laws and regulations. Work will include updating the Hospitals internal policies and procedures and notifying the staff attorneys of regulatory changes. The student may also attend meetings concerning Hospital operations, GME programs and medical ethics.
- Under general supervision, provides professional legal support service primarily to attorneys in the Patient Care and Medical Staff Group in the form of basic legal research, drafting of legal memos and policies.
- Participates in projects/activities to support department activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree Required.
Has completed one year of law school.
Must be a full-time student, or if working in the Summer months (Mid-May through Mid-Sept), must be planning to return to full-time status in the Fall.
Preferred Qualifications:
Legal training (completed one year of law school)
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $32.14 - $18.50 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
