Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Technician.
Responsible for performing advanced lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures. Assists with breeding and genotyping of mice and preparation of the tails for shipment to Transnetyx or in house genotyping. Perform studies examining mechanisms of RAGE/DIAPH1 axis in materials from mice and from human subjects. Experiments include: in vitro cell culture assays to assess gene and protein expression and functional endpoints, preparation of mRNA and protein lysates, performance of assays such as ELISAs and real time quantitative PCR, and the performance of other biochemical/molecular analyses required for studies. Maintains careful records of the data procured from each sample / subject and enter all obtained data into database.

Lab Duties - advanced lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures. In addition to those duties expected of an Associate Research Technician, Research Technicians may be expected to coordinate the repair and preventive maintenance of lab equipment. Additionally, is expected to assist in experiments using established protocols and procedures, and records results of experiments. Duties such as ordering of supplies and other shared laboratory duties as required.

Assist in Developing Procedures - Assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments. Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures. Maintains and updates technical knowledge.

Communication/Relationship with Others - Cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels of Medical Center. Listens carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions or obtain needed information. Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information.

Judgment/Decision-Making - Is able to recognize problems as they occur; and through the application of appropriate policy/ procedure, determine and/or recommends the appropriate solution. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to endure accuracy. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.

Sample Collection - Retrieve mouse samples from mice under study in the laboratory and from human subject samples from various clinics and hospital settings. Work with the laboratory scientists or clinical coordinators to arrange the procurement of tissue from colleagues in a timely manner. Arrange for appropriate storage.

Sample processing - Process samples (whole blood, plasma, serum, peripheral blood mononuclear cells), including preparation of genomic DNA, mRNA, or protein lysates from tissue samples and handling and preparation of samples for performance of RNA-sequencing analyses, real-time quantitative PCR, ELISA, Western blotting and other molecular, biochemical or pathology techniques required for the full-scale analysis of metabolic tissues. Flow cytometry and fluorescence activated cell sorting expertise is desired.

Record keeping - keep careful records of all material procurement and analyses in the databases for coordination across the entire research team. Maintains complete and accurate record of all laboratory procedures.
Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
Performing in vivo studies in mouse models monitor body mass, functional endpoints and other studies for which training will be provided.
Preparation of mRNA or protein lysates from tissue samples and handling and preparation of samples for performance of RNA-sequencing analyses, real-time quantitative PCR, ELISA, Western blotting and other molecular and biochemical techniques or pathology techniques required for the full-scale analysis of whole blood, plasma, tissues.
Highly organized.
Excellent interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. Familiar with Internet applications.
Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and must work and communicate effectively with both internal and external collaborators.
Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience. Advanced (beyond basic lab training will be accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator). Effective oral and written communication skills required.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
