Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Supervisor-Food & Nutr-Sanitation.

In this role, the successful candidate plans, coordinates, and monitors sanitation and safety functions within the department in an efficient and cost effective manner in accordance with The Joint Commission and all federal, state, and local regulations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Collaborates with other managers to prevent, identify, troubleshoot and analyze any sanitation related issues.
  • Anticipates sanitation needs based on operational needs, coordinates major cleaning projects with other sub-departments, prepares the facility in advance of company visits and audits and coordinates personnel needs and tasks
  • Focuses on long term goals of planning and implements continuous improvement strategies, evaluates, motivates and directs sanitation initiatives, articulates and reinforces the responsibility of all employees
  • Reviews and revises food and environmental safety checklists, conducts regular HACCP inspections of production, storage and other areas, identifies, addresses issues, corrects or follows up with responsible parties to correct any non-conformances.
  • Sources for equipment, tools, supplies and methods and arranges product presentations in order to identify ways of improving efficiency and standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Develops, implements, continuously evaluates and updates sanitation programs, procedures and schedules to assure efficient, cost-effective management of labor and supplies while meeting and elevating all standards of cleanliness and safety.
  • Performs daily sanitation inspections as well as regular audits of all kitchen areas to verify the cleanliness of all areas and equipment and initiates corrective action in case of any issues.
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with vendors and service providers to maximize quality and efficiency of service.
  • Initiates and coordinates employee trainings by external and internal partners in use of equipment, chemicals and safety equipment.
  • Liaises with other departments to ensure compliance with employee health, safety and infection control, identifies potential points of improvement and takes preventive or corrective action as needed.
  • Orders cleaning compounds/materials/equipment as required and controls inventory and storage. Works very closely with the equipment manager, reports and follows up on any equipment concerns. Oversees the maintenance and hygiene of all sanitation equipment.
  • Assists in the staff selection process, provides orientation and training, evaluates subordinates performance, and coaches/disciplines staff to build a competent team. Monitors sanitation employees' working hours, maintains time-sheets and payroll information such as vacations, personal days, sick days and overtime. Conveys organizational and developmental goals and vision to employees and leads team to commit and contribute successfully to those. Addresses complaints from and to employees, analyzes and resolves problems or assists employees in resolving work related issues, ensures employee satisfaction to maximize motivation and performance. Manages Sanitation Supervisor, providing instruction and development of the supervisor functions to foster a positive and productive team environment
  • Participates in cost control activities by seeking the most effective methods of delivering services and maintains an awareness of the cost impact on decisions and actions.
  • Ensures adequate sanitary standards are maintained in production, tray assembly, manual ware washing and dish room areas of the main kitchen, catering kitchen, and cafeterias.
  • Develops, plans and executes training for new sanitation staff members as well as refresher courses for the entire staff for continuous development and competency assessment. Prepares staff and supervisor schedules, daily work assignments, and supervises employees in their respective work areas to ensure that all work activities are performed with attention to the highest standards.
  • Is responsible for the strict adherence to all regulations regarding the use and storage of cleaning compounds, provision of up-to-date material safety data sheets (MSDS), and staff training for the correct use of these compounds.
  • Is responsible for the strict adherence to monitoring protocols for refrigerator/freezer temperature controls, manual ware washing, dish machine operations, and other various cleaning logs.
  • Plans, coordinates, implements, and monitors sanitation activities to maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with The Joint Commission and all federal, state, and local regulations and the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system inclusive of Management by Walking Around (MBWA). Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous material.

 

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors Degree in a related field inclusive of training in hygiene or sanitation management.
At least 2 years of Supervisory experience in a comparable function. Additional management experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis
Certified in ServSafe (within 6 months of hire)
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Qualifying Certificate in Food Protection (successful completion within 6 months of hire)
In-depth knowledge of all relevant health and hygiene regulations
Good IT knowledge in MS Office or related software and conducting internet search
Must be able to read, write, and speak English
Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $66,300.00 - $68,000 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
