Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Research Technician.
This Senior Research Technician position involves supporting a Senior Research Scientist by independently executing molecular biology operations. The ideal candidate has a strong background in nucleic acid (DNA/RNA) extractions from diverse sample types and will play a vital role in executing the extractions, troubleshooting workflows, and maintaining the molecular laboratory.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs various experiments under the guidance of the Senior Research Scientist, including DNA/RNA extractions from various biomaterial (biofluid and tissue, etc) and Quality Control (QC), as well as Cytokine assays.
- Maintains accurate and detailed experimental records as required by the Senior Research Scientist.
- Ensures timely and accurate completion of research projects and data delivery.
- Reports any issues encountered during experiments promptly and conduct troubleshooting under the guidance of the Senior Research Scientist.
- Maintains and calibrates laboratory instruments, and coordinates routine upkeep, troubleshooting, service requests, and related documentation as needed.
- Maintains laboratory supplies, reagents, and inventory; monitors stock levels and requests orders as needed.
- Coordinates for specimens data entry in database (LabVantage/FileMaker Pro).
- Adheres to department policies and procedures, including HIPAA and CAP accreditation requirements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Communications/ Relationships with others - Provides guidance, cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels of NYU Langone Health Staff. Listens carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions or obtains needed information. Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains confidentiality of all research information. Maintains excellent and professional-level communication skills in oral and written English.
- Judgement/ Decision making - Is able to recognize problems as they occur; and through the application of appropriate policy/ procedure, determines and/or recommends the appropriate solution. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties; asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to ensure accuracy. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with three years of experience. Specialization in three or more laboratory procedures is required. A solid foundation in basic lab protocols as well as significant experience in areas such as procedures is essential and required. Possess the knowledge and experience in specific areas such as Biochemistry, Histology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, etc.
In lieu of education, at least 10 years of related experience in a lab setting. Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in molecular biology, genetics, or a related health science
discipline with 2-4 years of wet-bench experience in research. Has a thorough and proven proficiency in
handling multiple extraction techniques and molecular biology protocols. Strong organizational skills,
detailed-oriented record-keeping, and the ability to work independently.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $53,294.22 - $70,119.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
