Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Creative Arts Therapist.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for providing creative arts therapy program for pediatric or adult patients in an assigned area under the general guidance of Supervisor or Director.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Plans, organizes, implements clinical programs for a designated unit. Ensures that the program is varied to meet the needs of the patients while meeting the guidelines established by the regulatory agencies. Takes steps to correct errors in the delivery of patient care either through direct action or communication to ensure patient safety and delivery. Varied programs in scope and addresses the psychological, cognitive, physical, social, and cultural needs of the patients. Modifies the program when necessary to assure as much independent function as possible.
- Assesses/re-assesses each patient and develop treatment plans compatible with physical, cognitive and psychosocial needs, interests, and capabilities through interviews and observations of patients and collaboration with other disciplines. Utilizes creative arts techniques to facilitate communication, understanding and coping. Provides, guides self expression experiences to help patients recover from and/or cope with physical, cognitive and psychosocial responses to illness/hospitalization. Instructs patients in the use of art and/or music resources and media. Assures completion of patient attendance sheets or alternative report and gives monthly statistics to the department office. Completes patient charting according to unit policies and procedures.
- Communicates effectively with other professionals, students,patients, and staff by participating in meetings/committees and preparing/updating required reports. Cooperates and communicates with all Medical Center staff patients, their families,and the general public in professional and effective manner. Maintains the confidentiality of all patient, hospital, and physician-related information. Attentive to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions, or obtain needed information. Develops a therapeutic and supportive relationship with the patient; maintains an appropriate perspective between personal and professional affairs. Communicates needs and/or concerns to supervisor in a professional manner.
- Incorporates the family when appropriate in order to facilitate the patients care and healing. Provides consultation, education and support to families on the impact of environmental factors on the patients adaptation to hospitalization and treatment. Supports family bonds and utilizes family strength in the care of the patient/family member.
- Assists with the recruitment, training,and functional supervision of students,aides and volunteers. Participates in the planning and conducting of seminars, symposiums, and educational endeavors sponsored by the department.
- Assists with ordering and maintenance of stores equipment and supplies. Assists with ordering supplies for unit, as needed. Maintains equipment and the working environment in a neat and orderly manner according to departmental procedures. Requests needed equipment and supplies on a timely basis.
- Complies with all policies and procedures for the department, the hospital, and outside credentialing agencies including emergency procedures, infection control, etc.
- Demonstrates continued proficiency in skills required to treat assigned patient population.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Drama Therapy or Dance Therapy with skills using variety of art/music equipment and materials. Certified by appropriate professional organization. LCAT or LCAT eligible (must hold current NYS OP temporary permit) required.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $29.28 - $49.22 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
