Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Quality & Safety Supervisor, PET/MRI (FGP) - Manhattan, Radiology. 

In this role, the successful candidate serves as a clinical and operational expert responsible for supporting advanced hybrid imaging services across outpatient and/or hospital-based imaging centers. This role functions as a high-level resource for PET/MRI workflow optimization, protocol standardization, staff education, quality assurance, patient experience, and cross-departmental collaboration. The APS partners closely with radiologists, technologists, nursing, operations leadership, physicist, scheduling, IT, and vendor partners to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality PET/MRI imaging services while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and performs clinical and research exams. Produces images of optimal quality for interpretation with accuracy and without delay. Maintains patient safety at all times.
  • Takes responsibility for patient/personal radiation safety. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. May be required to rotate through all diagnostic imaging modalities and/or locations.
  • Coordinates educational training sessions with physicians, technologists and vendors. Works with Education Coordinator to establish course syllabus and education credits.
  • Attends vendor-specific training sessions to learn advanced practice techniques in PET MR and provide in-service training throughout NYULMC imaging facilities.
  • Works with Clinical and Research Departments to develop protocols that will promote the ability to publish articles featuring advances in PETMR imaging technology.
  • Performs the development component, which includes but is not limited to, data collection, recording and analysis for Clinical and Research Imaging.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to physicians, technologists, students, industry representatives and CCHS imaging facilities. Serves as a specialty resource related to patient care, imaging and technology.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Clinical & Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the modality expert for PET/MRI imaging operations, protocols, workflows, and best practices.
  • Assist in the development, optimization, and standardization of PET/MRI imaging protocols across all sites.
  • Support advanced imaging procedures, research protocols, and other workflows as applicable.
  • Provide clinical guidance and troubleshooting for complex PET/MRI examinations and patient-specific imaging challenges.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and physicists to maintain image quality, protocol integrity, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to MRI and PETMRI safety standards, radiation safety policies, infection prevention guidelines,and departmental procedures.

Operational Excellence

  • Analyze workflow inefficiencies, exam delays, cancellations, no-shows, throughput, and utilization trends to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with scheduling and operations leadership to improve patient preparedness, confirmation workflows, and modality utilization.
  • Assist with scanner optimization initiatives including exam slot utilization, add-on workflows, turnaround times, and downtime recovery processes.
  • Support implementation of new services, tracers, software upgrades, and operational initiatives related to PET/MRI.
  • Participate in performance improvement projects and operational committees.

Education & Staff Development

  • Develop and deliver PET/MRI training programs for technologists, nurses, schedulers, and ancillary staff.
  • Mentor technologists in advanced imaging techniques, protocol execution, patient care, and workflow efficiency.
  • Create educational materials, competency assessments, tip sheets, and workflow documentation.
  • Assist in onboarding and competency validation for new PET/MRI staff members.
  • Serve as a liaison with vendor application specialists during system upgrades, optimization efforts, and training sessions.

Quality & Compliance

  • Monitor and maintain compliance with American College of Radiology standards, state regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs including image audits, protocol reviews, documentation compliance, and safety monitoring.
  • Assist with accreditation readiness, inspections, and regulatory documentation.
  • Track modality-specific KPIs: throughput, patient satisfaction, cancellations, and exam completion metrics.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Act as a key liaison between clinical staff, radiologists, operations leadership, nursing, IT, scheduling, and vendor partners.
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives related to growth, service expansion, and advanced imaging technologies.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary meetings, operational reviews, and departmental leadership discussions.
  • Support a culture of patient-centered care, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, required.
  • Five years' experience, required.
  • NYS Registered Technologist (ARRT or NMTCB) with New York State licensure is required where applicable.
  • Current BLS certification.

Required Licenses: Radiologic Tech Lic - NYS, Nuclear Med Tech Cert (NMTCB), Am Registry Of Radiologic Tech

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $101,493.51 - $175,076.17 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
