Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Dosimetrist - Staten Island, Cancer Center (Radiation Oncology).

In this role, the successful candidate The Medical Dosimetrist is responsible for the accurate and safe radiation treatment planning, documentation, and quality assurance of patient treatment plans at NYU Langone's Perlmutter Cancer Centers. The Dosimetrist generates and verifies radiation dose distributions and calculations for adult and pediatric patients under the supervision of the Radiation Oncology Physicist and Radiation Oncologist.
Treatment planning may include external beam radiation therapy and/or brachytherapy, including both offline and online adaptive treatment coverage across NYULMC facilities.
This position offers a hybrid work schedule, with flexibility to perform certain duties remotely while maintaining an onsite presence as required for clinical collaboration, adaptive planning and patient care. Hours vary.

Job Responsibilities:

Treatment Planning

  • Perform offline and adaptive treatment plans. 
  • Evaluate target volumes for consistency and identify critical structures for contouring.
  • Generate and perform QA for IMRT plans, including reference points for physics verification.
  • Follow established dose constraints, departmental policies, and planning standards.
  • Ensure completeness of setup fields, DRRs, and CBCT aspects of treatment planning.

Documentation

  • Verify that prescriptions and physics plans are signed and approved by the physician prior to treatment.
  • Complete all electronic and paper documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain proper labeling, approval, and tracking of all plans and related documentation.
  • Document and sign treatment setup changes and modifications.

Planning and Time Management

  • Organize and prioritize workload to meet patient schedules and departmental deadlines.
  • Manage multiple concurrent planning tasks efficiently.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changing departmental needs.

Initiative and Collaboration

  • Develop creative solutions to planning challenges and implement new physics initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and support colleagues when needed.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks to ensure timely completion and prevent treatment delays.

Education and Professional Development

  • Assist in training residents and students on our treatment planning systems (TPS) and radiotherapy principles.
  • Participate in departmental protocols, in-service training, and peer review rounds.
  • Complete all required safety and compliance training, including annual Radiation Safety certification.

 

Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
Import images into TPS and perform duties of Dosimetrist of the Day and Contourer of the Day.
Communicate planning or LINAC issues promptly to physics supervisory staff.
Report medical events to the Director of Physics and consult physicians for plan reviews as needed.
Perform adaptive online planning across Perlmutter Cancer Center sites and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor of Science degree or graduation from an accredited Medical Dosimetry program.
Certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) or eligibility to obtain certification within a year.
JCERT schooling
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary clinical environment.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Certification (CMD), graduate of dosimetrist program
Experience with Eclipse, Monaco, ARIA, Mosaic, and/or MIM systems.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $120,000 - $170,000 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
