Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Technologist, Special Procedures-IV Cert.
The Special Procedures Technologist assists physicians in the performance of medically prescribed diagnostic imaging and interventional procedures. The technologist is responsible for patient care, equipment operation, radiation safety, and image quality while adhering to departmental protocols, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies.
Job Responsibilities:
Clinical & Technical Duties
- Demonstrated competency in the selection, preparation, and manipulation of interventional radiology devices, including glide wires, micro wires, introducer sheaths, vascular access needles, diagnostic and guiding catheters, and adjunct equipment required for complex image guided intervention.
- Assists physicians during interventional and special procedures, including patient positioning, sterile field preparation, and procedural support.
- Demonstrates knowledge of radiographic positioning, technique selection, and protocol adaptation based on patient condition and procedural requirements.
- Operates radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment safely and effectively to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Loads, programs, and operates contrast media power injectors according to departmental policy.
- Performs image transmission and documentation to PACS, ensuring proper anatomical labeling and completeness of studies.
- Generates hard-copy images when required.
- Provides after hours and on call support for emergent interventional radiology procedures, ensuring rapid mobilization, equipment readiness, and adherence to sterile technique during urgent cases.
Patient Care & Safety
- Verifies patient identity using approved identification methods prior to all procedures.
- Explains procedures clearly to patients and provides reassurance to reduce anxiety.
- Maintains patient privacy, dignity, and comfort before, during, and after procedures.
- Recognizes medical emergencies and immediately notifies nursing staff, physician assistants, or physicians as appropriate.
- Demonstrates knowledge of isolation precautions and follows them as required.
Radiation Safety & Quality Control
- Adheres to ALARA principles and all radiation safety policies.
- Utilizes shielding, collimation, and proper exposure techniques to minimize radiation dose.
- Maintains and returns radiation monitoring badges and rings as required.
- Performs routine visual and operational quality control checks on imaging equipment and reports malfunctions promptly.
Information Systems & Documentation
- Demonstrates working knowledge of HIS/RIS systems and accurately selects and verifies patient and exam information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Documents exam start, completion, and patient departure times as required.
- Schedules and modifies exams in RIS as necessary and understands the full patient tracking workflow.
- Accesses patient records to verify orders and review relevant clinical information.
Workflow & Professional Responsibilities
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of procedure rooms and equipment.
- Prepares supplies and equipment in advance for scheduled and emergency cases.
- Adjusts workflow to accommodate STAT, emergency, and add-on procedures.
- Collaborates with radiologists, nurses, technologists, and other clinical staff to ensure optimal patient care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates degree or Certificate from accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
- New York State Radiologic Tech license with IV Contrast Certification.
- Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $105,346.00 - $118,293.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
