Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Lead Acupuncturist (FGP) - Manhattan, Center for Women's Health.
In this role, the successful candidate oversees the clinical and administrative operations of the program, including setting program standards and implementing systems to support care delivery. The role collaborates across departments and external partners to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance with applicable accreditation and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include supervision of staff; oversight of documentation and communication systems; budget and operational management; regulatory compliance; quality improvement; program metrics; policy and procedure development; project management; outreach, education, and community relations. The Lead Acupuncturist may also provide integrative health services, including acupuncture and related therapies. Initially, the role will be primarily clinical (approximately 80%) while the program is being established, with the balance shifting over time as administrative needs grow.
Job Responsibilities:
Clinical:
- Provide individually tailored acupuncture and integrative health treatments to patients of all ages
- Follows standard quality, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures and adheres to local, state and federal laws, regulations and statutes.
- Identifies the correct anatomical and proportional point locations based on patients anatomy.
- Treats patients using tools such as needles, cups, ear balls, seeds, pellets, and nutritional supplements.
- Takes precautions related to treatments such as intradermal needles, moxibustion, electricity, gua sha, and bleeding.
- Analyzes physical findings and medical histories to make diagnoses according to Asian medicine traditions. Maintains detailed and complete records of healthcare plans and prognoses.
- Formulates herbal preparations based on their herbal properties to treat conditions.
- Evaluates treatment outcomes and recommends new or altered treatments to promote, restore, or maintain health.
- Educates patients on topics such as meditation, ergonomics, stretching, exercise, nutrition, the healing process, breathing, and relaxation techniques.
Program Design and Clinical Operations Management:
- Be accountable for the development and implementation of operational systems to assure cost effective, patient centered and quality operation of the Griffin center.
- Establishes clinical protocols, policies and procedures and treatment care plans in conjunction with the clinical team and medical director.
- Ensures accountability of staff for maintaining accepted standards of clinical care and quality.
- Develops and implements interdisciplinary staffing plan.
- Manages program space to support clinical productivity; including assurance of appropriate space, allocation and use, assessment of current and future space needs, and compliance with the Joint Commission, Department of Health and other regulatory guidelines.
- Continuously reviews systems, processes and procedures to enhance quality of care as well as patient and provider satisfaction.
- Uses billing, research and scheduling reports to enhance operations and financial performance
- Supervise and coordinate the daily technical, clinical, and administrative activities ensuring high quality patient care.
- Day to day operations: ordering supplies, maintaining budget, and maintaining clinical metrics.
Program Development
- Assist in building out a group visit platform.
- Co-develop clinical models of care institution wide. .
- Collaborate with NYU affiliates to expand lifestyle wellness initiatives across departments for patients, families, faculty, staff, and trainees.
Essential Functions
- Fosters an environment that is customer service oriented, with customers defined as patients, their families, Payers, Referring Physicians, and Clinical Care Teams.
- Responds to patients, their families and staff regarding issues related to patient care in a timely and helpful manner.
- Ensures that all clinical program activities are in compliance with JCAHO, the Department of Health, HIPAA, Patient Safety, Departmental and Hospital guidelines.
- Works with IS (as needed) to purchase and maintain the use of information systems equipment, software, including planning for future needs.
- Together with the Medical Director, supervises development of clinical documentation standards, templates in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Collaborates with Epic team for development and implementation of electronic care plans; patient criteria; and clinical flow sheets that support the needs of this multidisciplinary program.
Advocacy, Outreach & Development:
- Collaborates with the Marketing and Public Relations Department to develop a coordinated approach for all marketing and outreach related to the Integrative Health and Lifestyle Medicine Program, both internally and externally.
- Supervises the development of promotional and educational awareness activities for the Integrative Health and Lifestyle Medicine Program targeted to referring physicians, payers and patients/families, including, videos,
- handouts, brochures and other such material.
- Create educational workshops for patients and staff.
- Create material and recruit experts for podcasts and videos.
- Host CMEs and CEUs for healthcare practitioners.
- Plans develop and participate in outreach events as it pertains to initiatives and strategies in the community and with managed care payers.
- Partners with external organizations to provide community services.
- Reports activities and community benefit to internal NYU Langone collaborators
Financial Management:
- Ensures effective resource stewardship, cost control, and revenue enhancement.
- Develops operating budget (including collection analysis, revenue projections, and expense analysis).
- Analyzes monthly productivity, revenue and expense reports and takes necessary measures with key stakeholders.
- Functions within operational budget.
- Performs financial analysis related to new program development and implementation.
- Responsible for conducting regular analysis of revenue and expense reports and takes necessary measures to assure compliance with budgets.
- Examines reconciliation of all programmatic, special purpose and related hospital accounts on a monthly basis.
- Collaborate with physician leadership in developing an ongoing needs plan for staffing and workspace expansion.
- Identifies opportunities for grant funding including industry support and government funded agencies.
- Writes and submits grants for funding to support the program.
- Projects and analyzes revenue from various sources including: grants, gifts, institutional and departmental funds.
- Develops the proposals and analyses that are required for the Hospitals capital budget process.
- Provides strategic financial planning for the long-term sustainability of the program.
Billing and Compliance Oversight:
- Identifies opportunities for commercial and government reimbursement for services provided.
- Monitors flow of charges and reviews the monthly billing, accounts receivable and rejection reports, and responds to issues identified.
- Works with central billing office in updating all program fees; involves an understanding of ICD and CPT codes.
- Collaborates with leadership on front-end billing processes (co-pay collection, bill generation, and follow-up, etc.).
- Communicates and collaborates regularly with compliance staff to ensure adherence to compliance guidelines, clinical staff education, and complete charge capture.
- Collaborates with Managed Care Department to ensure proper reimbursement of services rendered.
Human Resources/Personnel Management:
- In conjunction with the Medical Director, coordinates recruitment of qualified and competent providers and staff.
- Responsible for payroll processing, employee evaluations, and special employee issues.
- Coordinates employee benefits and employee payroll with appropriate offices.
- Responsible for training, mentoring, staff recognition and team building. Identifies ways to encourage and reward excellent job performance.
- Enforces and assists in the interpretation of NYU Langone's Human Resources Policies and Procedures, including employee relations, rules of conduct, disciplinary action, grievance procedures, and other personnel issues.
Education, Research and Professional Activities:
- Develops and designs educational programs and materials.
- Maintains knowledge in the area of Integrative Health and Lifestyle Medicine.
- Attends relevant conferences/workshops, with opportunity to co-present.
- Participates in professional organizations.
- Contributes to the expansion of knowledge within the field of Integrative Health and Lifestyle Medicine.
- Facilitates the Teams development and implementation of clinical research protocols.
- Participates in the design and organization of investigational activities.
- Assists with the identification of outcomes measures.
- Participates in composition of IRB submissions for research approval.
- Participates in data collection and analysis for research purposes.
- Participate in the presentation of original research at local, national, and international scientific meetings.
- Ensures that registration and billing processes for clinical research are followed.
- Contribute to the authorship and publication of scientific manuscripts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree Nursing or healthcare related field, required.
- Valid NYS Acupuncturist License, required.
Required Licenses: NYS-Acupuncturist License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree nursing, healthcare related field, public health, or leadership, preferred.
- Proficient in standard office applications with an understanding of organizational dashboards and spreadsheets.
- Ability to analyze, research and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Understands the value of systems and operational structures that promote a positive, productive work environment and workforce.
- Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem solving, decision-making.
- Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships across disciplines and with medical and administrative staff, patients and the public.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $84,577.93 - $145,897.01 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
