Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Accessioner I (FGP) - Manhattan.

In this role, the successful candidate Position Summary:Assists with preparation and delivery of pathology specimens, maintenance of specimen log, and day-to-day operations of specimen handling.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Open/Remove specimens from bags.
  • Organize and lay out delivered specimens from clinicians.
  • Proofread pathology requisition forms for spelling and grammar.
  • Ensure the specimen requisition matches the specimen bottle.
  • Check insurance information on the requisition form.
  • Sort-out each specimen by referring clinician.
  • Report discrepancies to QA analyst.
  • Enter patient demographics, clinician information in the LIS system.
  • Cross-reference any prior patient history.
  • Enter clinical description.
  • Barcode label the requisition and specimen bottle.
  • Scan the requisition from into the LIS system
  • Triage specimens based on clinical urgency.
  • Sort-out specimens for different processing areas
  • Facilitate process for preparation of mailing and workflow
  • Packaging and transporting specimens between laboratory and pathology offices.
  • Miscellaneous filing of pathology reports and slides.
  • Inventory control of supplies used.
  • Rotating contents of drawers for filing system
  • Cover responsibilities of other Project Associates if they are absent.
  • Assist with special projects related to Dermatopathology.
  • Complete other duties as directed by the Administrative Manager/Supervisor.
  • Communicate effectively with other healthcare providers, supervisors and peers.
  • Word Processing/Typing Prepares and proofreads memos, reports and applications. Independently prepares responses to routine correspondence.

 

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or the equivalent is required. Minimum of 1 year related experience in an office setting or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Effective Oral, written communication and interpersonal skills. Computer Skills Working knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power point and Access. Ability to develop basic formulae for spreadsheets; set up routine computer procedures; Ability to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software. Ability to proofread documents and write clear, concise 1st draft. Ability to type at a speed of at least 45 net words per minutes. Knowledge of standard office practices. Ability to multi-task while paying attention to details. Ability to use standard office equipment such as copy machines, multi-line telephones, fax machines.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:Associate's Degree in a related field with 2 Years of related experience in an office setting is preferred.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $48,274.10 - $48,760.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
