Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Data Associate.
The Research Data Associate will work collaboratively with the Principal Investigator (PI) and the Program Coordinator, Research Coordinators, and the study team on a range of NIH and foundation funded studies with a programmatic research targeting sleep health disparities and ADRD reduction in minoritized populations. The Research Data Associate (RDA) will be responsible for providing basic to moderate range of coordination for Research studies conducted at the ARISE-DP program, Healthy Brain Aging and Sleep Center (HBASC). The RDA assists with recruitment, enrollment, grant submissions, research data collection and study coordination. Performs intra-operative monitoring and serves as liaison with the IRB and the internal and external funding agencies. Ensures accurate execution of research protocols in accordance with Good Clinical Practices, HIPAA, IRB and required obligations to patient/subject, Principal Investigator, research team and sponsor. The RDA assists with study activities in conjunction with the research team and PI. The RDA works on different assignments and tasks between projects based on real-time needs of project and interests of the individual. Interfaces directly with patients/subjects and Principal Investigators in support of the clinical trials if applicable. Works under general supervision. The Research Data Assoicate will join a dedicated and ambitious team that is focused on targeting ADRD reduction and sleep health disparities in minority populations, and providing the opportunity to build an academic pipeline shepherding underrepresented minority scholars from the undergraduate to faculty levels in sleep and neuroscience research.
The Aging Research in Sleep Equity & Dementia Prevention Program (ARISE-DP) resides at the Healthy Brain Aging and Sleep Center, New York University Langone Health. The mission of ARISE-DP is to translate clinical, community based, and epidemiologic research findings into innovative population-level interventions. This includes delineating pathological mechanisms associated with Alzheimers disease (AD) risk, designing and testing culturally tailored point-of-care diagnostics, treatment/preventive interventions aimed at increasing sleep quality, reducing OSA, and management of hypertension, inflammation and stress as novel therapeutic targets for ADRD prevention in minoritized populations.
The RDA will participate in several NIH-funded studies including PRIMARY, RESOLVENT, MAINSTAY, RETOSA with focus on two: Using a Health Disparity Research Framework to examine mechanisms linking Obstructive Sleep Apnea with higher Alzheimers disease risk in older Blacks/African-American (ASCEND-AD), and Treatment of OSA on sleep-dependent memory and blood biomarkers in blacks (BLAMMO) which are both recent 5-year funding from the NIH.
Research Environment:

We also work collaboratively with several other aging, brain, and sleep research centers including the NYU Alzheimers Disease Research Center, the NYU Institute of Excellence in Health Equity, Mount Sinai Integrative Sleep Center. The research environment will include working directly with the PI as well as other collaborators, professional/career development, one-on-one meetings, group lab meetings, opportunities to present work at national and international scientific conferences and meetings, and manuscript preparation for publication in high impact journals. This position is located at the Aging Research in Sleep Equity & Dementia Prevention Program (ARISE-DP) housed within the Department of Psychiatry at the NYU Langone Health Manhattan, New York.
Job Responsibilities:
- Interacts with patient/subject and families in a courteous and professional manner. Collaborates with various personnel that may be involved in assisting with specific aspects in the study.
- Gathers, Properly Packages, Stores and Transfers Slides, Samples and Other Important Materials. Coordinates the shipment and transfer of varied types of materials among the various departments and labs.
- May complete assessments on study subjects/patients per protocol (with proper training); continue to follow-through with items and patients as part of research study. May (if proper training has occurred) draw patients/subjects blood, perform EKG, and or take vital signs. May be required to travel to study initiation (that is, where sponsor teaches protocol to PI and CRC).
- Ensures protocol compliance. Follows standard steps regarding eligibility criteria, follow-up process and documentation.
- Demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures of the host institution where the study is being conducted, including the regulatory requirements such as IRB and other approvals if necessary.
- Acts as an internal auditor during quarterly internal audits for other studies, is aware of study regulatory status and keeps an up to date copy of regulatory documents.
- Initiates and continues regular contact with patients; encourages visit reminders and compliance to research; ensures contact with patients and their families is courteous, effective, professional and cooperative.
- Utilizes established methodologies to collect patient information for the research project(s); gathers and compiles data, statistics and other materials as needed. Inputs clinical and non-clinical data into the database and or case report forms. Extracts data for publications, or provides data collection from outside physicians offices. May perform library searches and retrieve reference materials from various sources; request articles from medical journals.
- Compiles data and assists in consolidating and analyzing data for presentation to sponsoring and regulatory agencies. Reviews data with supervisor and then provides reports to all parties (e.g., data and safety monitoring committee, the principal investigator, sponsoring agency, etc.) on the progress of the study.
- Recruits and the screens of potential patients/subjects for eligibility to the study.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have an Associate's degree plus one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer literate with good interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in science, public health, health education or a related field. Prior experience in a health care settings and/or research level interviews
Prior patient education experience
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $51,236.16 - $51,236.16 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
