Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Lead Optician - Manhattan.
In this role, the successful candidate The Optician Lead is responsible for assisting patients in selecting and fitting eyeglasses, contact lenses, providing guidance on frame styles and lens options, adjusting and performing minor repairs for patients, and promoting exceptional patient experience in high-volume ambulatory medical center. This position primarily supports the Optical Shop with Optical Sales Associate and Optician duties but at a Senior Level. The Optician Lead works with the optical sales associates and opticians to oversee the daily operational needs of the Optical Stores at NYU Langone Health, at the Preston Robert Tisch Center for Men's Health. The Optical Sales Lead is also responsible for administrative tasks, such as patient billing, accounts payables for vendor invoices, and conducting and maintaining inventory levels and workflows. The Optician Lead will communicate responsibilities, coordinate staff schedules, and promote exceptional, personalized client experiences while maintaining efficient workflows in a high-volume ambulatory medical center.
Job Responsibilities:
Optical Sales Duties
- Engages with and creates a personalized experience for each client to promote various optical services
- Ability to verify and explain EyeMed Benefits to patients
- Assists clients in choosing optimal frames and lenses based on their prescription, personal style, budget, etc.
- Provides each client assistance and education on our full suite of optical products
- Communicates technical jargon to clients in a way that they can easily understand
- Takes and records accurate measurements, adjust and fits eyewear, and executes details with accuracy
- Checks that all finished eyewear meets our optical standards, as well as patient requirements and requests
- Adjust, repair and clean eyewear to ensure optimal comfort and functionality
- Collaborate with Optometrists and Ophthalmologists to ensure seamless patient care
- Maintain accurate records of customer prescriptions, orders, and payments
- Conducts monthly inventory of frames
- Implements product promotions to increase sales and brand awareness for NYU Langone Health Optical
- Ensures cases and displays are properly maintained and stocked
- Stays up to date on the latest optical trends and services
- Takes lens measurements and adjusts frames for fitting
- Multi-tasks competing priorities and works in a fast-paced environment
Clinical Management
- Optimizes client/patient flow
- Supports key initiatives related to clinical quality programs
- Ensures clinical compliance with Patient Safety initiatives and reporting
Leadership Responsibilities
- Onboards, trains, and monitors staff
- Oversees daily operations such as staffing schedules, inventory management, and workflows
- Promotes exceptional client experiences by reinforcing best practices and service recovery strategies with staff as appropriate
- Monitors supply inventory and product maintenance
- Communicates issues or roadblocks to the optical sales associates
- Expected to set the tone/represent the management team at all times
- Enforces adherence of NYULH and FGP policies and procedures and standards including but not limited to HIPAA, Compliance, Human Resources, etc.
- Places MCIT tickets in the event hardware becomes non-functional (desktop phones, desktop computers, desktop scanners, copier, and fax machines)
- Serves as liaison with other NYULH Department Representatives
- Mentors staff, and actively promotes the development of operational/financial performance improvement skills
- Assists with staff competency assessments and performance evaluations providing feedback, identifying training needs, and pathways for employee continued career success
- Attends and supports employee participation in FGP corporate meetings/WebEx to stay aligned with larger network updates and training as appropriate
- Promotes employee engagement activities within the practice, engaging feedback from support staff and leaders internally
- Performs other duties and projects as needed
Patient Experience & Access
- Serves as NYU Langone Health Faculty Group Practice Brand Ambassador by upholding the NYULH Mission, vision and values and promoting excellence in the patient experience, during every encounter.
- Drives consistency in every patient and colleague encounter by embodying the core principles of our FGP Service Strategy CARES (Connect, Align, Respond, Ensure, and Sign-Off)
- Greets patients warmly and professionally, stating name and role, and clearly communicates each step of the care/interaction as appropriate
- Works collaboratively with colleagues and site management to ensure a positive experience and timely resolution for all patient interactions and inquiries whether in person, by phone or via electronic messaging.
- Proactively anticipates patient needs and participates in service recovery by applying the LEARN model (Listen, Empathize, Apologize, Resolve, Notify), and escalates to leadership as appropriate.
- Shares ideas or any observed areas of opportunity, to improve patient experience and patient access, with appropriate leadership. (i.e. ways to optimize provider schedules, how to minimize delays, increase employee engagement, etc.)
- Partners with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office team members to support collaboration and promote a positive patient experience.
- Takes a proactive approach in ensuring that practice staff are fully versed in the Access Agreement gold standard principles.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Associate Degree or higher
NYS Ophthalmic Dispenser Lic
5+ years optical sales experience
3 years vendor and inventory management experience
Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume ambulatory medical center
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with management, staff, and clients.
Required Licenses: NYS Ophthalmic Dispenser Lic
Preferred Qualifications:
1-3 years management experience

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58,931.00 - $101,655.97 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
