Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Communication Specialist.
In this role, the successful candidate The Communications Specialist supports the Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care by building and maintaining relationships with internal partners in the departments of Development, Marketing and Communications, and with Sala and childrens hospital donors to execute ongoing Sala-related administrative priorities in these areas. This role requires strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills. The Specialist position is responsible for planning and successfully implementing the Sala Institute external communications strategy, acting as the primary liaison between Sala Institute and communications, marketing, and development partners, supporting Sala Institute fundraising and promotional events, and facilitating/developing ongoing dissemination of Sala work and updates to various audiences (including childrens donors and the larger community of childrens hospital stakeholders). This role fosters collaborative relationships and to be comfortable navigating a fast paced, complex organizational structure. In addition, this role manages competing project dependencies and stakeholder relationships, as well as ensuring timely and effective communication with the team and key stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities:
- Combines healthcare knowledge, ideally pediatric healthcare knowledge, with communication, marketing, and community and donor relations, to effectively manage the development and dissemination of Sala Institute information and material to various audiences including: the general public and community, pediatric healthcare community, internally within NYU Langone Health, and current and prospective donors and philanthropic community.
- Leads the development of, in partnership with Development and Marketing & Communications, a strategy and implementation plan for dissemination of Sala-related information and content, across all modalities and audiences
- Supports and manages ongoing Sala events both professional events for pediatric healthcare leaders, donor stewardship events and fundraising events in partnership with Development
- Works with Sala team members and children's hospital faculty and staff to maintain knowledge of key initiatives, advances, and patient stories to inform ongoing communication efforts
- Acts as a focal point of contact for Sala Relations
- Consistently operates with a clear understanding of when to act independently and when best to reach out to include input from others with broader, more diverse experience
- Brings issues to resolution and escalates issues or concerns to leadership and key constituents
- Effectively communicates and develops a professional level of cooperation across the organization; determining the best approach to drive success through formal channels and informal networks
- Develops creative marketing, fundraising and promotional ideas for Sala Institute
- Provides administrative support and coordination to Director, Sala institute for any and all efforts related to development, marketing/communications, events and/or large scale efforts
- Relates well to all kinds of people at all levels both inside and outside the organization
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required and under direction of Director of Sala Institute
- Maintains Sala Institute team culture by acting as collaborative team member, maintaining a positive attitude, willingness to work at all levels, and commitment to the team
- Peforms other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a A minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in communications, marketing/promotional work, donor relations, and working in a healthcare setting
Strong interpersonal relationship skills
Action-oriented, with experience managing aggressive deadlines
Effective problem solving skills to assist in detecting potential issues and issue resolution
Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively present to the target audience
Demonstrates an ability to exercise discretion, good independent judgment, and independent thinking in selecting the optimal course of action.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $67,771.14 - $116,904.64 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
