Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Assistant Director - Finance.

In this role, the successful candidate as the Assistant Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing daily financial and strategic planning, variance analysis, and reporting to support NYU Langone Health's financial performance. This role ensures that financial management, accounting, funds flow, compliance and budgeting principles are properly implemented and followed, specifically for the Perlmutter Cancer Center (PCC) with a focus on the non-clinical financial portfolio. Oversight and support are expected of all financial aspects of the PCC non-clinical portfolio, including post-award grants management, and requires regular interaction with department and central staff and leadership. The Assistant Director provides meaningful and timely financial analysis to drive initiatives and decisions for PCC executive leadership and heads of programs and divisions. Contributes collaboratively and energetically to an environment of effective financial reporting and analyses, time utilization & prioritization, compliance with regulations, and adoption of leading practices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversees, supervises and is accountable for the non-clinical financial management and performance of the PCC; provide financial oversight to the research and academic components specifically.
  • Supervise financial staff, including managers and analysts as applicable.
  • Develops & monitors the PCCs annual operating and capital budgets; provides regular reports (at least quarterly) of overall budget performance to the Director, Executive Director and/or Department Chair.
  • Develops, implements, and oversees internal controls within the Center to ensure the highest level of fiduciary compliance.
  • In alignment with institutional standards and industry best practice, works with leadership to build infrastructure with human resources and IT systems to sustain effective and efficient flow of budgetary and financial information for real time analysis of financial health of the PCC.
  • In conjunction with central and departmental leadership, plans, designs, and communicates strategic level administrative and budgetary analysis of SOM financial issues relating to the PCC, including development of business plans for new programs, services and recruits.
  • Oversees monthly analyses and variance reports on all accounts including reporting for all grants and philanthropy. Oversees regular financial reporting and analysis of individual funding portfolios to PCC principal investigators and program leaders.
  • Monitors and supervises expenditure related to grants and contracts & oversees the preparation of intermediate and final financial reports as required. Is accountable for the appropriate use of sponsored awards as required by federal, state, local and university regulations, and adheres to all institutional deadlines and processes. 
  • Oversees PCC financial operations for research staff and faculty recruitment. Is responsible for coordinating the financial on-boarding process and ensuring that appropriate accounts and funds are set up.
  • Ensures that faculty and staff are apprised of departmental, medical school, university, affiliated hospital policies and procedures as it relates to anything with a financial impact.
  • In conjunction with executive leadership, manages and aligns financial needs with available organizational resources.

 

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a 8 years progressively responsible experience managing budgets, business development and financial operations of complex matrix organizations at academic medical centers
Experience in clinical and research billing, grants management, and the business of clinical trials.
Firm understanding of basic accounting principles as well as actual to budget variance analysis and problem-solving.
Able to multi-task and manage various deliverables while adhering to deadlines.
Quick learner and adapts to changing responsibilities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Must have a Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance or related field. MBA Preferred but not required.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $117,107.95 - $170,971.50 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
