Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Genetic Counselor - OB/GYN, MFM (FGP).
In this role, the successful candidate will responsible for fulfilling the need for high case volume genetic counseling services for patients receiving care for high risk pregnancies at the NYU Langone Maternal Fetal Care Center within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Job Responsibilities:
- Analyze genetic information to identify patients or families at risk for specific disorders or syndromes.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Perform associated administrative or clerical tasks, which may include special projects, correspondence, and program funding activities.
- Prepare or provide genetics-related educational materials to patients or medical personnel.
- Read current literature, talk with colleagues, or participate in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in genetics.
- Evaluate or make recommendations for standards of care or clinical operations, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, ethics, legislation, or policies.
- Document patient charts and develops follow-up recommendations for patients; documents cases and maintains appropriate records, ensuring confidentiality
- Write detailed consultation reports to provide information on complex genetic concepts to patients or referring physicians.
- Refer patients to specialists or community resources.
- Provide patients with information about the inheritance of conditions such as breast, ovarian, prostate and colon cancer; cardiovascular disease; Alzheimer's disease; and diabetes.
- Interview patients or review medical records to obtain comprehensive patient or family medical histories, and document findings
- Interpret laboratory results and communicate findings to patients or physicians.
- Discuss testing options and the associated risks, benefits and limitations with patients and families to assist them in making informed decisions.
- Determine or coordinate treatment plans by requesting laboratory services, reviewing genetics or counseling literature, and considering histories or diagnostic data
- Provide counseling to patient and family members by providing information, education, or reassurance.
- Assess patients' psychological or emotional needs such as those relating to stress, fear of test results, financial issues, and marital conflicts to make referral recommendations or assist patients in managing test outcomes.
- Explain diagnostic procedures such as chorionic villus sampling (CVS), ultrasound, fetal blood sampling, and amniocentesis.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a MS degree in Genetic Counseling and board certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
1. Knowledge of genetics testing as performed in a fetal medicine/prenatal diagnosis environment.
3. Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills interacting with specific patient populations affected by fertility challenges.
4. Ability to interface effectively as a member of a team and independently, with all levels of the organization and must work and communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
5. Membership in one professional organization
Preferred Qualifications:
Has an National Provider Identification (NPI) number

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $67,771.14 - $95,400.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
