About the New York Genome Center
The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. NYGC scientists and staff are furthering new approaches to diagnosing and treating neurological diseases and cancer through their unique capabilities in whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, state-of-the art analytics, and the development of genomic tools. NYGC concentrates specifically on disease-based research in the following areas: neuropsychiatric disease (autism, schizophrenia, bipolar); neurodegenerative disease (ALS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s), and cancer.
Located in Lower Manhattan, the New York Genome Center was founded by and remains closely affiliated with the leading academic medical centers and research universities in the New York region, engaging in research projects with and for these institutions. Essential to our collaborative work is an outstanding faculty, whose members typically hold a joint appointment at NYGC and a partner university. They support our scientific mission by conducting independent research in areas of mutual interest to us and the wider scientific community.
Position Description
The Accounting Associate II performs various accounting and bookkeeping tasks such as:

Collect, obtain approval, and enter A/P invoices into accounting software on a daily basis; (temp)

Processing A/R Invoices, including working with project managers throughout the billing
-
processing, including monitoring AR emails and collections, gathering support for deposits,
-
sending out billing invoices.

Draft subtenant invoices and updating schedule for reimbursable expenses from subtenants
-
Create and maintain AR aging report
-
Reach out to vendors regularly for collection on aging;
-
Perform other daily data entry functions (e.g. monitor incoming cash, enter all incoming
-
payments, assist with bank account monitoring, tracking of prepaids, etc.);
-
Prepare and enter necessary journal entries and accruals into accounting system;
-
Reconcile and analyze various balance sheet accounts in the GL;
-
Responsible for preparation of weekly cash report;
-
Complete monthly close activities including completing bank reconciliations, monthly revenue
-
accruals for deferred revenues, account reconciliations;
-
Review Concur and AMEX expense reports;
-
Support laboratories by placing purchase orders on their behalf;
-
Conduct monthly inventory count, update monthly inventory tracking and usage; and draft goods
-
receipts purchase orders related to inventory

Maintain integrity of database accounting systems by regularly updating files, reports and
-
spreadsheets;

Prepare various spreadsheets, reports, and data lists, including cash reports and aging reports;

Responds to vendor, client and staff requests for various information;
-
Performs other accounting administrative tasks as assigned;

Conduct Concur training
-
Other special projects as required, including maintaining AP email and processing invoices temporarily.
Although a private, not-for-profit entity, the NYGC operates in a notable public field and reporting requirements over time will emulate public company standards. Implementing proper policy and demonstrating financial integrity and compliance within the NYGC operations is essential.
This is a full-time non-exempt position that may require overtime based on quarterly and annual filing deadlines, as well as other project deadlines.

Requirements & Qualifications

Ideally, prospective candidates will have the following experience or attributes:

College degree required, with a concentration in Finance/Accounting preferred;

Strong analytical and high level of problem-solving skills;
-
Minimum two to five years of accounting experience;
-
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
-
Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
-
Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills;
-
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
-
Strong Excel skills, experience with SAP and Concur preferred.

Work Flexibility
NYGC has established a flexible work policy to give employees and other staff more ability to balance their work, personal commitments, and commuting challenges. The incumbent in this position may be eligible for a flexible work schedule or hybrid remote work arrangement with supervisory approval. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
Salary & Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70,000-80,000 per year; the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
